Horse Shrooms

Hi there. I noticed two types of mushrooms growing in the horse dung here South Africa). I attempted to grow imported spores before. Even though I took every precaution and followed the instructions to the letter, they grew quite well only to be destroyed by a bacteria. If either of these two species are psilocyben, I will be very happy. Since the grow here they should be much easier to cultivate.

I have included some pics with spore prints.

I would be grateful if someone could kindly advise.

the ones in the second pic are a panaeolus species of some sort, likely inactive. The first looks to be a psilocybe species, but NEVER eat a random shroom without expert on site id. Psilocybe cubensis grow on horse shit, I've grown em from birdseed, popcorn kernels, cow shit and hay, coco coir, and miracle grow potting soil.

go to mushroomobserver.org and follow their id keys or post it for id, they have a huge base of expert identifiers

nice clean photos, dont eat those unless you are completely confident in your find. I would say if you are inexperienced and looking to determine what you have, you could attempt to grow the panaeolus variety on the right. Your only option to salvage wild prints is agar petri dishes and multiple transfers to get a clean sample of mycelium. Panaeolus varieties dont like grains all that much and prefer manure. I have had success cleaning wild panaeolus prints on PDA and they will grow fine in honey liquid culture once you find a decent sample.

I was just wondering because I always heard shrooms grow in ungrained manure so I just wanted to make sure
i would never recommend eating wild mushrooms unless they were some of the obvious culinary varieties. If you are convinced you have found a desirable wild mushroom and would like to research it further i would suggest germinating a few spores on agar petri dishes and growing/fruiting your sample in a clean lab. This way you can observe its characteristics better and ensure you have an isolated variety. Many different kinds of mushrooms can grow side by side and have completely different genes, look identical, and some be poisonous.

these are the only mushrooms i've ever seen growing on horse dung, it's called panaeolus scyanescens... and it happens rarelly. For instance, I've seen cubensis growing on cow shit a billion times, but i've seen panaeolus scyanescens growing on horse dung probably 2 times. NOTICE THE BLUE FROM BRUISING.

Are these the psychedelic mushrooms aka magic mushrooms I found them in horse manure today after the rain last week
no, by any means, no!
