How do i power mh and hps

do i need some special outlet to power MH and HPS bulb or can i use a regular construction light hanging thing. Specifically these bulbs HID High Pressure Sodium Light Bulb, 400 Watt, Mogul Base and a HID Metal Halide Light Bulb, 250 Watt, Mogul Base. How do i power them i just want to use some hanging light outlet thing.

I don't understand your question. HID light systems are basically composed of: A ballast, a reflector, a socket (mogul), a light bulb. The ballast plugs into your wall outlet.

The answer to your question is NO,you can not plug a HID light into a hanging light outlet thing.

With a budget of below $50 you might as well hang it up,not trying to be rude rather being realistic.

You can get a complete 400 watt HPS system shipped right to your door for $130,you can get off cheaper by going with a bunch of FL lights but by the time you add up all the bulbs & extras you'll need for flowering your damm close to the same amount for a HID light.

Wait till your budget allows proper lighting.

you would want a switchable hps/mh ballast. with whatever wattage your trying to push to the plants. 400,600, 1000. if your a diy guy theres ballasts on ebay for cheap , assemble yourself.

hey dude. if ur talking about wiring there will be three wires that you can splice to an extension cord of the same AMPS and volts. the 120v wire is the positive, the comp wire is the negative, and then there's a grounded wire which must touch metal.

I could be off on what you were asking but that's my answer.

Oh and you can run it using a house socket IF the voltage of the light is 110or120v, assuming you live in the usa

Dude,i know you want to hear differently but your question has allready been answered & answered with factual info,under no circumstances at any time in any way,shape form or fashion can you simply screw a Metal Halide or High Pressure Sodium buld into a standard light socket & expect it to work,it cant be done even if your an electrical engineer.To use these light bulbs you need a ballast.

Like i said if you want to get off as cheap as possible research florescent lighting for growing,all the info you need is in the grow faq on this site,while your researching FL lighting start adding up the cost of all the extra bulbs you'll need to accomplish a productive yeild,after adding up the total cost of the multiple fl bulbs & splitters needed to run them all you'll understand why i said to save up & get a real HID system instead.

FL lights work for growing but they are throw away equipment,after a few grows they need to be replaced & all the money you've spent is out the window,another reason i reccomend waiting till you can get proper lighting.

I buy all my lights from craigslist and convert them from highbay to grow lights. 1000mh for 25$ with bulb and 10$ extra bulbs is always my favorite route

Actually, they can screw in to a regular light - tried it - but they do not light up. They do need a ballast, but they will fit ( has no use )
