400 watt hps

but now the question is how high should it be above my plants keeping in mind that they are still small

Ill update pics as soon as I get another battery for my camera but when should i start adding mild strength nutes?the two plants you saw have 2 leaves the size of my pinky (excluding the round leaves wich r gonna fall off) and the other 3 are sprouts a bit smaller than the ones in the pictures.

I just read in a grow guide on the internet this temperature is optimal.Growguide Index

but if it is too hot what are some ways I can easily bring down the temperature in my closet?

after these ones veg for a while im planning to put them under a 4' flourescent, find the sex, and then get some clones but after vegging under a 400watt hps will it send them into flower if i put them under a florescent at 18 on 6 off? (soon after using the hps for flowering the clones)

higher temps are cool if you have really good ventelation. if you use co2, you will probably have your temps in the high 70s to low 80s. plants like the environment we do. just ass a rule of thumb. if you go in your grow room and it's too hot/cold, its probably the same for your plant. some plants will prefer warmer temps to others. you will eventually get to know the needs of your new woman. i had 5 of them, now i narrowed it down to 2. i also just sprouted some God Bud seeds that i got from vancouver. i got this 'cause one of the best strains i had was GodBerry. it came from portland. that, and afghooey x cindarella. mmmm. i got blueberry (DJ Short) so i figured i'd just make my own. it will be my first attempt at pollination, once i get my males...

down to 6 inches? then what during veg? I was under the impression 3 feet was the ideal distance but maybe im thinking that because the setup was 4 plants under a 600 hps

you really don't want to go that low unless you have really good cooling for your lights. the closer you can get the lights to the plants, the better. the distance that's usually given is an average distance for the light not to burn your plants, and this is because of the HEAT the light produces. just place you hand on top of your plants and slowly lower the light until it starts feeling hot (you don't want hot). you will feel the radiant heat. like i said, the closer, the better, but this will also mean better cooling for the light is required.
no air cool = about 2 ft to 3 ft
air cool = as close as you can
i have a 1000 watt that sits about a 1 1/2ft from my plants. everywhere i've read, its been recommended 3 ft. i get some fatties that just don't want to stop growing ;0o
i have a cooler hood and an inline fan that sucks in ouside air through the hood and out the roof. it's really great in the winter...cool ass air keeps my light nice and cool. i cant put my had on the glass of the hood and it's not hot.
