current growing a plant called short term amnesia cross of lr and amnesia haze from dutchbreed.com, its an auto, one of my seedlings is 10 days old and seems small for its age, I was told by an admin from the forum of the seedbank i got it from to keep the lights pretty far away so the seedlings can stretch so i have the lights about 9 inches away i got 1 40w and 3 26w cfls i can add more if needed, well the growth seems pretty slow so im wondering is this is right shoud i keep the lights at a distance so the plants can stretch or shoud i put them like 2 inches away ?

9 inches is too far for cfls regardless of strain imho, your light is nearly non existent at that distance......

I dont know why he told you you WANT your plants to stretch... Most strive for the exact opposite.

The general rule of thumb for CFLs is keep them as close as possible w/o burning the plant. usually 1-2 inches

I keep my 150W CFL 4" away from my 4 day old seedlings. I move them to my 600W MH at 2.5 weeks old. Rockwool grow all the way, later on slabs in Holland trays with top drip feed. Ionic nutes. Jack Flash & Mazar-i-Sharif.

Check my journal out if you want. I have a few good pics of how close my lights are to my plants and they are only 2-5 days old. I had the lights no more than 2 inches, sometimes as little as an inch since day 1.

The journal link should be in my signature

Good Luck!!

i keep my 485 w total of cfl less than an inch from my plant tops and i get hardly any vertical growth so far,
the plant is only about 4 inches tall but has a ton of bushiness

Maybe these pics will help. These plants are 3-7 days old and I had the lights a tad closer with no problems before today, I moved them back a bit to help a couple stretch just a tad.

Hope that helps

You can keep them as close as you want as long as they don't touch. I keep mine 1 inch away, but their normal growth means I need to move the lights daily. Closer CFL's will mean a shorter, bushier plant. Farther away they will grow taller as they grow towards the light.

i just recieved my order of short term amnesia and i noticed that the seeds were SO SMALL are yours small too or did i just get a bad batch?

I use 100W CFL's (not true wattage, just what they're comparable to, can't remember actual wattage on bulb) and I keep them 3 to 6 inches away from plants. I use 12 of them and have a box about the size of a cabinet. I've had pretty good luck with this set up. They don't stretch too much and I've had harvests of 1 to 1 1/2 OZs per plant.
