How hot can germinating seeds get

I germ'd some auto seeds in paper towels and then put them in pots and put siran wrap over to keep them from drying out. I accidently put them in the sun today to get them some warmth and forgot to take the siran wrap off the top. I think my temp guage said it was 111 degrees fahrenheit under the siran wrap. Do you think I killed my seeds?

probably dead, in my experience seeds over a hundred degrees would begin to die in 45 minutes to an hour

IMO...its the temp of the soil is the concern,

so how long did you leave them in the sun ....?

If they didn't stay at 111°. I've had seeds reach 120 on the outside of a plastic covered dish/paper towel. Temperature inside was 109. It sat in the sun too long but the temperature didn't stay that hot for more then 15-20 mins. They all sprouted. I've read reports of some strains needing the seeds to be kept hot. In the 90° range to sprout quicker then 7 days.

It was like 3-4 hours. The soil felt pretty hot when I put my finger in it. I dont know man, I don't have very good hopes for 'em. If I dont see some heads poking up by tomorrow morning imma germ some more seeds and go digging

Patience is a virtue... Or poke around in there... The way my mind works, I would always wonder if they would have popped, and if there was a good pheno in there. :bigjoint:

3 out of 6 are emerging this morning so things are looking good. At worst, I've only killed half of em. Consensus, you can get germinating seeds pretty damn hot but I wont be doing it again!

Glad some came up. There is no need for plastic or domes over seeds. I start mine in solo cups. At times when humidity is low or temps up I put a piece of cardboard loosely over the top of the cups if they are drying too fast. I would suggest using a flap of cardboard loose on your pot if you have to do it again.

I leave it loose with a slight gap on one side to allow them to breathe.
