So I thought I'd make a review thread for dispensaries in Colorado, and share my experience of the different dispensaries are their bud with you, as well as some things that I did and didn't like about the dispensary and the people in it. So, basically "What I would do it I managed or Budtended their". Meaning I will also share tips for making dispensaries stand out, and get more members. (Quotes are from https://www.rollitup.org/toke-n-talk/624886-what-if-i-budtender-your.html ) I have been to two dispensaries in Pueblo, two in Telluride, one in Durango and 50+ in Denver. So there will be plenty to share :) And if any dispensary owners would like my help I do know how to do everything that I say to do, so I can help you.
This is my first real post. If you want to get more members, you have to make a fine line between members and non-members. Pricing and a daily special are a good start, but that's not what is going to make or break someone's decision about signing over their plant count. You need CLEAR members benefits.

(1) Trim should be offered to members $25 an oz.

(2) When you are almost out of buds in a jar, and it's starting to look flaky with tiny nugs, take that jar and dumb it into some trim from the plant it came from, call it "strain specific trim" and sell it to members for $50-$100 per oz, depending on trim to nug ratio.

(3) Popcorn should be something members can buy, for a discounted price in comparison to your regular buds.

(4) Pre-weighed 8ths. Every dispensary loses money after harvest during the curing process, when the bud dries. So to save some money, take 1oz from every strain, and but it into "pre-weighed" 8th bags, or jars. If you have enough bud, take another oz of ea strain and make pre-weighed g's. Now, you sell those for cheaper, BUT as they lose weight, they do not lose value. You just tell them, "This was weighed 3 weeks ago, and weed dries out"

(5) Member appreciation day, this is important. Once a month, or at least 2 times a year, you need a day where your members can come in and get $20 eighths, or $150 ozs along with a free edible with any purchase. This is the BEST way to get members.

(6) People who sign over their plants to you NEED compensation when they put pen to paper. Most acceptable would be an edible, or at the very least a pre-roll, if not store credit. Some dispensaries even offer an 8th for $5 one time every month for people who sign over, meaning some people may sign over for the $5 8th, then never come back till they come for another 8th, but you get to grow 6 more plants.

(7) Holiday specials are a MUST for members.

(8 ) "Happy hour" (x$ off, or buy 2 get one) for drinks is the BEST way to get people to try your sodas. Especially people who never have had a medical soda before

(9) A Prize wheel is not a must, but it definitely helps. And allowing members to spin it upon sign up is a good gimmick, plus if you do something like "After 8 visits" or "After $100 spent" you get to spin it again, people would be more inclined to visit. Or a hole punch card or stamp can work to the same effect
Weed Maps (A Must)
Now for some dispensary advice. Since I feel like there is about to be much berating, I am going to post some advice now. But I am saving most of my posting for until tomorrow. That is when this thread will "Really get started"... But, my first piece of advice to all dispensaries, YOU NEED A WEEDMAPS SIGN AND DISCOUNT. Even if you make it yourself on Microsoft Word... You need a sign that says "Post a good review about us on Weed Maps and receive X% off your next purchase." Weed Maps is THE primary place to find a dispensary, at least in Colorado. If you don't have LOTS and GOOD reviews on Weed Maps, you can expect the online audience to turn away from your store. Display your "poster" in a place where EVERY customer will see it on their way in, out, or both. The more reviews, the better your business will be.​

CraigsList
Craigslist, a dispensaries presence on Craigslist is a MUST. People DO use Craigslist, especially in a city like Denver. But no matter where you are, it doesn't hurt to put something on Craigslist, at least every day that you have deals.​

YouTube
Every dispensary needs AT LEAST a tour video. Videos of grows, and updates on strains and products are a bonus that will let your customers know what you have, and what you have had. Post in the comments that "If we ever stop supplying this item ask us why, and maybe we will stock it for you again" just in case one day your video is "Out of date" with your inventory. But the more videos you have, the more people will feel comfortable coming in to get what they saw & meet who showed it to them.​

FaceBook
Not just a page, or a group. An account, add random people on it that you've never met, and join as many groups as you can that are in your area, and that are involved in cannabis activity. This way you can make events, or pages to share with those people, and it will always list the name of your dispensary as well as a logo or photo of your choice.​

Trim
Do you throw away trim? DON'T, you can sell your sugar leaf. And in Colorado dispensaries must sell at least 70% of their own home grown product, meaning they can buy 30% from dispensaries and caregivers. And trim counts towards that weight, so if you sell 3oz of trim that you DID grow, you can then turn around and sell 1oz of Buds that you did not grow.​

Keif & Bubble Hash
It's not expensive to get a few Bubble bags and have them handy in the dispensary, or grow room somewhere. When you have lots of trim, which an dispensary will at some point, it is always good to be able to pick up some Ice or Dry Ice and make some hash. Home made hash can bring extra funds into the dispensary that were not expected, as well as pleasing your customers with affordable quality product. And with the new grinders and movies today popularizing "keif", when you have a pile of it, it turns heads

Perpetual Garden/ HPS & MH
Most dispensaries probably already have this down, so this is more for the smaller places. If you are growing on a dispensary/caregiver level, you need to grow dispensary grade. Fluorescent is ok for seedlings and clones, but if you are trying to grow the BEST bud, you need to veg with a Metal Halide once your plants are out of your "clone room/area", that way they will grow the fastest and healthiest. Then, when flower time comes, you NEED a High Pressure Sodium, that is the ONLY way to go. On top of that you need a perpetual garden, meaning 1 room metal halide, on an 18hr on/6hr off schedule, and another room on a 12hr on/12hr off schedule, so that you are harvesting EVERY two months, with plenty of time to veg your plants out huge. Other than that you just need nutrients and good soil and you've got the ingredients for some dispensary grade bud... And if you want to grow that "top shelf" quality, you have to learn some stress techniques, which will be documented here when I finish my grow, and when I start my next grow, as well as written down over the next few weeks on this thread.​
Members Benefits
I will get deeper into the specifics later, but to be a successful dispensary there needs to be a CLEAR line between your members benefits, and non-members benefits. Most dispensaries offer a lower price for members, but this simply isn't enough. You need to make people WANT to be members. Cheaper EVERYTHING, special days, and a signing or monthly "bonus" (such as a cheap 8th or free preroll), will make membership to your dispensary A LOT more appealing.​
Rally Presence
If you are in Colorado, your dispensary will NEED to be not only AT the rally, but will need to stand out at the rally. People come not only from all over Colorado, but all over the country. So if you can get a cool sticker, t-shirt or coupon in the right persons hand, you may have just found not only a customer, but someone to advertise for you by word of mouth. And if you engage in discussion with people, they will be more likely to want to drive the distance to visit you, if they live far from the town your dispensary is located in.

CO2 Generation
When you are using an enclosed space, it is important not to remember only circulation, but CO2 generation. Your plants need carbon dioxide in order to go through its natural processes. If it doesn't get enough, it can hinder growth.​

THC Testing
If you want to stand out as a dispensary you have to get your bud tested. There are places to go to get your bud tested, as well as kits you can order online. However you choose to do it, it is best to get your bud tested and that test printed out and put as a label with the buds. And it doesn't hurt to take a nice scope picture of the trichombes to make the %-age feel more "true". It is a scientific test, but for some reason having zoomed in picture of frost seems to hit home better than a white piece of paper with numbers on it.​

Around Town
You have to have some form of presence in your town besides your actual location. First, posters, go to Kinko's and print out a hundred copies of posters with your dispensary logo, name, and some deals that you will have going on for at least a month, if not longer. Because people may see these posters WAY late. So, put them on light poles, telephone poles, and on boards where people leave business cards at Wal-Mart, Gas stations or Government buildings such as the post office, library or town hall. If you can afford more advertising, make t-shirts, it doesn't matter how many, just hand them out to a few family members and friends. I'm sure they would love to brag about how their friend works for a dispensary. And if you have enough money, lighters, that is the best tool for marijuana advertising. Everyone is willing to accept a free one, and if you don't want to give to many away, just give them away with purchases of $50+​

Rally & Cannabis Cup Presence




Rally & Cup presence really may not seem like much, but when 50,000 people see your stuff, and 100 people get to speak and smoke with you personally, it really makes a difference. And the more support the rally has, the better it is anyway. It is an amazing event that will grow every year. On 4/20 you want to be at the rally, because that's where everyone will be that day. 1) It's free 2) Anyone can smoke 3) It's a huge outdoor event... Plus, the real "Cannabis Cup" action that day is later at Red Rocks when they have the VIP concert party. So if you don't have a VIP or convert ticket, you're shit out of luck and have to go to the rally anyways. But that's ok, the real action is the last day of the cannabis cup, when they actually pick winner. But you still do have to pay for that, it's like $30-50 for a ticket. I went to both last year.​

Popcorn Buds
We all get them (the lower buds that don't quite get as dense as you'd like) , and if you're a dispensary, I'm sure you have trouble getting rid of them. A good way to increase customer satisfaction, as well as membership is to offer your popcorn buds (in a mix, so call it a "salad" of mixed strains) at a discounted rate in comparison to your nice buds. Between $20-75 less depending on the quality of the batch. That way no one is disappointed when they get popcorn buds, and people will actually come in for more.​
Stem Jar



This doesn't even seem like a big deal, but when a patient sees you chop a stem off of their nug, and set it aside, THEN weigh out their bag, they feel like you are looking out for them. Plus you can use them stems to make butter or oil for edibles.​
