I'm setting up my first indoor grow also and I'm using cfl's. I plan on having 2 plants. 8 bulbs seems a little much...cant I use like 2 or 3 of the bigger ones?

try to keep 8,000 lumens of cfl right on a plant at all times if possible....
and be sure for veg you keep a ratio of 2 blue for every 1 red light. and vice versa for flowering.

the sun produces 10,000 lumens per sq foot. i have 12 plants with 2 600 hps lamps pumping 180,000 lumens and a 250 metal halide in between them pumping 18,000 lumens. even with all that in my 9x4 foot area i only come up with 5500 lumens per sq foot. with cfls you CANNOT have too much light, well that goes with everything even hps as u can see. personally cfls will never equate to HID lamps but i understand thats all some people have to work with. if i were you for 1-2 plants i would have like to have at least 8 42 watt bulbs like smoke2live said. clfs tend to produce airy whispy buds. if i were you, which im not. i would rig as many as i can in there without running into a heat problem. the more intense light you have=more intense buds you will get. thats just my 2 cents.

agreed. the sun is better than cfls. rip a hole in the ceiling of your closet and add a heater.

lol im just saying. its just the facts. if u want to produce quality nugs ur ganna need to produce light that is somewhat as strong as the sun. might be cheaper to buy lights than rip a hole in the roof lol.

nah a hole, saran wrap, a stick to make a tent shape to the saran, and some duct tape.

i plant monsters outside usually. i try to have my babies 2ft tall in veg when i throw em out......looks like ill only have one ready this year. but i use hid indoors anyways. cfls are great for side lighting and starting 12/12 from seed though.

Ive used 4 2500 lumen & 1 1600 lumen CFL through veg and flower(harvest is in less than 2 weeks) on 1plant that is now 4 feet, and a clone that was topped and is only about 10inches.
The flowering has gone great, i was VERY surprised about how well it actually did.

Just set it up right, get mylar, and feed nutes.

:peace:
