how many hours of darkness does weed need to flower outdoors

i know the standard for indoor growth is to switch to 12/12 but is that the same for outdoor growth. This is crucial to my grow because we have cold automs and id like to grow a sativa which takes 13 weeks to flower. Where i live it starts getting into the 40s at night as early as october. Does this make sativa's like arjans ultra haze and nl haze mist ungrowable?

pretty much, unless you can force them into flowering earliy by bringing them indoors or covering them to shorten the daylight. Remember just because it's light out in October doesn't mean the sunshine has enough power to either grow or ripen trichomes in Northern latitudes, the sun is too low in the horizon.
Anyways back to your question, 10 hours of darkness will trigger flowering in most weed.

Unless you can create an artificially longer night earlier than Mother Nature will turn to a 12/12 and shorter light cycle by either bringing your plants inside if they are in pots of it you can do something like set 4 fence posts around your grow area and cover your plants with a THICK tarp to totally block out the sunlight any sativa or mostly sativa strain/hybrid is not what you should be attempting to grow outdoors where you live.

You either have to grow it inside or if you want to grow it outside move to the Southern U.S. or even farther South.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought BC had excellent weed? I thought this may be relevant considering latitude. Or is it all done indoors?

lol @ you talking shit and then being wrong. Plants outdoor do not wait until 12/12 to flower. If that was the case I'd be waiting until October for 12/12 to come and by that time my plants are dried cured and being smoked. So before you jump down sombody throat STFU and think about what your saying. Like somebody else stated in this thread its usally more like 10 hours of darkness with plants outdoors.
