How much of roots need to get water?

Is it okay if only the bottom of the roots get water? I have a 4x4 table and I have put my 6inch rockwool cubes in pots with hydroton but I don't think my rockwool is getting water. Will my roots ball in the rockwool need to get wet or can the roots wick up enough for the plant?

if the bottom of the cube is getting wet then it should wick up pretty good until roots pop out the bottom and establish. just keep an eye on your plants if the leaves start drooping then that tells you they need more water

My cubes are not.getting wet since transplanted into the pots the roots are grown to the bottom of the pot on some. Should I water from top so rockwool gets wet to?

Rockwool holds a lot of moisture, so don't soak them as that will drown the roots. If your cubes are contacting the Hydroton, which holds moisture also, that is good enough because the roots are going to seek the moisture and grow down and out of the cube. The roots don't need a lot of water to thrive, in most cases too much water is worse than not enough. Keep the Hydroton moist, and just water every 3 day's or so., and you will be fine.

A proper F & D will wet the entire root system. Note: when the tote volume is sized to the rez volume the roots will be engulfed near the base of the plant. Not a good idea with rockwool as it will retain the moisture, which an lead to rot. The root pic is when I ran 2 plants from a one plant rez
