How private is the knowledge of a medical patient owning a mmc?

One thing i have been really hesitant about for applying for a medical marijuana card is 1. Will your insurance company find out?
2. Who are the other groups that can find out?

I ask these questions because just like a lot of other people, a big speed bump i have in my way are those two questions. Ive tried poking around on google and here to find a answer but no one really gives one. So i was wondering if any of my Michigan neighbors knew the answer.

Thanks

Each state has diffrent rules and regulations for the medical use of marijuana. Here in Hawaii the first group that is informed of your application is the D.E.A. as far as insurance companies are concerened I beleive each company has the right to use their own discretion when it comes mmj. Also depending on the type of work you do you could be taking a risk applying for mmj i.e.. law enforcement or any federal/state job. Just give them a call and set up an appointment. They love to answer any all questions.

The only people who can find out in michigan is a cop if he gets the number from your card he can tell if it is a valid card or not, they cant just look up your name or anything and find it, they need the number directly off your card and it gives them a simple validation yes or no...and that's only if you check the box on your application allowing them to do so, I highly advise you do if you dont want to face being arrested if you get caught with mj in your possession

Insurance companies, D.E.A, or anything is not supposed to have access to that information by law the MDCH is only able to release validation VIA card number to a law enforcement officer who has your card in hand should you check the box allowing them to do so.

Again BY LAW THEY CAN NOT RELEASE ANY INFORMATION TO ANYONE UNLESS THEY ARE POLICE WITH YOUR CARD IN HAND - And if that even makes you uncomfortable you can disallow police from doing that also but goodluck on that lol

I think that mj dispensarys also have access to that information. When I go to buy weed, every one of them looks up my card, regardless of how many times I have visited them in the past.
I'm in S. Calif.

Section 333.26426

(h) The following confidentiality rules shall apply:
(1) Applications and supporting information submitted by qualifying patients, including information regarding their primary caregivers and physicians, are confidential.
(2) The department shall maintain a confidential list of the persons to whom the department has issued registry identification cards. Individual names and other identifying information on the list is confidential and is exempt from disclosure under the freedom of information act, 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 to 15.246.
(3) The department shall verify to law enforcement personnel whether a registry identification card is valid, without disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary to verify the authenticity of the registry identification card.
(4) A person, including an employee or official of the department or another state agency or local unit of government, who discloses confidential information in violation of this act is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or a fine of not more than $1, 000.00, or both. Notwithstanding this provision, department employees may notify law enforcement about falsified or fraudulent information submitted to the department.

So again - It is by the NUMBER on your card in which they verify if it is valid, No other information is disclosed. They need your card number in hand and to be a LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER to even verify it is valid provided you checked the box.
