how safe is buying marijuana off craigslist?

Today marks day 20 since I sent my application in to the state of michigan. I don't have my card yet, but I have proof of mailing it all in 20 days ago, and a copy of my cashed check.

I'm still probably a month away from getting any smokable bud from my grow, and even then im not sure exactly how its going to turn out or how good it will be. I see people with ads on craigslist selling medical grade for $300 or $350 and would like to get myself an ounce to tide me over until I get my own stuff.

Anyone have any advice on the legality of this? Seems like it shouldnt be legal, although if my understanding is correct I cannot get in any trouble since I have my card (or its equivalent). I can essentially purchase on the black market too; it's illegal for anyone to sell to me, but not illegal for me to purchase.

Is this correct? Should I have any concerns about buying from a caregiver on craigslist?

if your ignorant enough to try it... you deserve to get caught in my opinion.

in other words.. don't do it man. Craigslist is hot these days.. as in 'hot', as in being covered with undercovers.

If you are medical, and within the state limits, go for it. Just make sure you get it from someone with a valid card.

Graigslist has some shady people doing business...Distribution Center may be a better option.

common sense tells me im protected from arrest. and with all the raids on dispensaries I would prefer a back room deal with no paper work as opposed to buying a membership from some disp. and leaving a traceable paper trail. I just wanted others input before I take any action.

(a) A qualifying patient who has been issued and possesses a registry identification card shall not be subject to arrest, prosecution, or penalty in any manner, or denied any right or privilege, including but not limited to civil penalty or disciplinary action by a business or occupational or professional licensing board or bureau, for the medical use of marihuana in accordance with this act, provided that the qualifying patient possesses an amount of marihuana that does not exceed 2.5 ounces of usable marihuana, and, if the qualifying patient has not specified that a primary caregiver will be allowed under state law to cultivate marihuana for the qualifying patient, 12 marihuana plants kept in an enclosed, locked facility. Any incidental amount of seeds, stalks, and unusable roots shall also be allowed under state law and shall not be included in this amount.

to expand on that; it makes sense (meaning they will get some arrests) by trying to sell to non card holders in a sting operation.

But a sting operation to catch medical marijuana patients purchasing medical marijuana, when it's very clearly spelled out that they cannot be arrested or prosecuted doesnt make any sense. I'm more concerned with dealing with some joker off cl.

if you're a legal patient, and the person on craigslist is a legal patient as well, then i would say go for it. patient to patient transfers are 100% legal and very clearly stated in our law. you cant legally buy from a cargiver unless you are his/her registered patient so i wouldnt be buying from any caregivers. im not sure if its legal for us patients to buy off the black market though....so i would just stick to buying from other patients.

the law states you CAN buy it by ANY means possible. i would not do the craigs list thing myself, just go to one of the collectives in ann arbor, that town has there shit together and all the ones that are open have the city backing them.

I buy off Clist all time here in co . NO probs always have my paperwork and buy from caregivers with their paperwork. Problem I have had is people pushing shitty weed calling it medical grade . I get them to back it up b4 i met them . As in ask alot of questions like did u grow it ,did it finish properly etc . If they dont answer your questions u called their bluff its crap weed usally if u get them to brag about it it's worth looking at.

i cant find any on the black market. found a single 8th for $60, and the guy has no more. and how is their a risk of getting locked up?

I am no expert on Michigan Law, but it is my understanding that you may only purchse from your designated caregiver, or grow your own between the time you are eligible and the time your ACTUAL card arrives. Once your CARD arrives, you can purchase legally from the dispensaries.

It is also my understanding that it is not 20 days from the date you sent it in, but 20 days from the date they cash your check.

I am waiting for my card as well! Good luck!!

I have seen tons of Craigslist ads.
Collectives and Dispensaries may post ads on craigslist, they often are flagged within a day.

What about weedmaps? I am in southern california and they are huge here.

DYK: You have the ability to verify another patient, if you were going to "meet up" with them per say.
I get verified every time I call someone new. You too, could request such documentation if you were interested in finding something from someone new.

A bunch of growers I know use craigslist to off extra meds to stay legal.
A few once black market growers (a ton) are using 215/420 to try and go legit. Most old timers I know of are doing quite well.

craiglist is ok for a buyer (I'd beware of possible creeps/thieves ect) and legal for CARD HOLDING buyer.. NOT legal for seller, whether this seller has a card or not! <---100% FACTS!

patients can be compensated in an exchange of meds with other patients. its in the michigan law. if im wrong please prove it to me because ive read the law and thats what it says to me, its the same for some other people on here.
