HPS /CFL is it the quanity or quality or both, please advise b4 I blow 400 bux

Here is my quick story, 5 yrs ago I did my first two grows. I grew with a 1000 watt HPS and in soil and had a ton of bud to smoke for years. MY WIFE HATED IT. I had a 3 year old and a 6 month old. Now they are older, nosy and coherant. I am going to do stealth grow I decided last week cause where we live now. I CANT FIND ANY!!!!!!!

I am doing hydro, in a little 6 pot kit cause I needed to do something small.
I was going to do about 6 full spectrum CFL's and add a 150 watt HPS for flowering.

I bought a cabinet at target and a carbon scrubber was ready to get started. Now I have been told to spend another 220 bux for a cool tube and 400 watter.

POINT BLANK QUESTION DOES HPS make better quality or quanity? If it just lowers quantity then I could care less, its personal use, and a quiet operation. If it ruins the quanity then I gotta wait a few months to save up for a good blower, and the 400 watter and cool tube. OH and move the cabinet into my garage. I live in TX in the desert, this morning it was 34 out side and this afternoon 70. In the summer time its hot as shit, so I have a limited amount of time. Basically rethink my whole operation

Thanks for the welcome The cabinet dimensions are 25.63Lx18.87Wx69.38"H I do have the receipt and its in the box. Maybe I could find a bigger one but that was a good deal. I want something stealth. I was gonna get a tent, but my kids keep bugging me for their own tent so i got one........ lol

attics are good....if you have rafters in your garage you can plywood them, outdoor shed with locks for "expensive tools or riding lawn mower" or rent a 1 bedroom apartment close to where you live and use it for "the garden activities"...just throwing out ideas here...but if the kids are nosy im sure you know the trouble that can become from them talking to other kids at school about what they think you do...

My kids are still kinda gullible, my daughter thinks I am a level 5 ninja. Its just for personal use or I would rent a warehouse So does is the difference between HPS and CFL just the quantity ? Or is it also the quality of the bud that is not as good too? I can deal with quanity being lesser, but not quality

Just out of curiousity... I ask a simple question and no one can answer.. It really makes me think that CFL's must really suck... I will switch out having a cabinet with a tent and go HPS... Out of the CFL' delusion before I got it, at least I saved money!

It's quantity and quality. MH/HPS would still be best though...or you can use some t5s for seedlings and clones and then switch them to the hps for the flowering stage.

hey nasty. i have never flowered with cfl's but i do use them for vegging in the beginning and work really well. problem is you need those suckers right on top of your plants for them to be effective. that being said, you need to adjust the lights every few days to keep up with the growth...just becomes a pain really

and as far as quantity and quality, i believe you will raise both with hps. i am not saying good bud cant come from cfl's. however, i have seen many buds produced by cfl's and the tend to be more stringy and less compact. for sure smokable, but you will not be as proud of those buds are you are with hps buds...

nasty, definitely get a house, you can do whatever you want and not have to worry about a landlord or anything. and as far as a room, in a house you have ample space. i use my bathroom closet... had to punch a couple holes in the wall and ceiling, but hell, its my house right. i keep a 250mh/hps in this 2x4 closet but wish i had gotten the 400hps...gives me plenty of personal with some for friends

nasty- from what ive read and learned cfls keep u from buiying additonal equip. to cool the grow area, are cheaper to maintain, and more stealthy. from what ive seen they also give off good yields. since its for personal use i would go w/ cfls for now, then go all out when u get the house

I agree with six8. go for the cfl's right now, and go bigger when you have the room. I am using cfl's and don't seem to be having any problems with any of the light issues associated with cfl's. I havent seen any plants grow faster or bloom faster than what I can do. I take that back, there are some super growers on here that I'm sure could do better with a flashlight than i could achieve with a 1000w hps. Go cfl bro!!!

it makes sense. For just a hobby for personal smoke cant the CFL make great smoke? and pleanty for ONE PERSON ? LOL

CFL's are definately the way to go for the stealth grower. I originally bought a 400w HPS with an open face (non coolable) and it sure did put out a lot of light but also put out WAY too much heat for a cabinet. I changed over to CFL's, got the biggest wattage I could find, and placed four in my cabinet which holds 2 plants and have produced some very beautiful buds. personnally i would goo cfl right now and you could do that with one plant in just a small drawer but you do need alot of lights to square inch so more plants is more lights but since its only one person i would say do like maybe 3 plants if you want to with flouros

if you have the space, ventilation, and the moolah go hid just better all around buds but also don't say no to flourescence cause they are awesome to some times.

CFL's seem to be working good. Im personal medical user. Mmm.

Look at how they are coming along, I only have 6 cool white CFL's on them. All I can afford right now. They get same light and one looks a bit droopy, and same amount of water, hmm. I dono... Take a look. 26 days from seed.

Cfl's suck, only good for seedlings, clones, and veging. Too much time is spent moving things around to get ample light penetration.
Go with a switchable 150 or better yet 250. That way its just plug and play, no wiring, no moving, just simply water and grow.

if you want good bud your going to need to get an hps, if you want a low yeild, more leafy, less potent buds you could go with cfl, i veg wth cfls then flower with hps, for some reason the quantity and quality is increased dramatically with an hps. but if you have time then get a cfl grow started for now, then hit up a grow store and get a 400w hps for some personal pounds when you look for a new house. good luck
