Hps light noise?

So ive had my 600w hps bulb for for about a year now. I was in my room this morning when it turned on and i heard a high pitched, energy-like noise (dont really know how to explain it) coming from my bulb. Is it time for a replacement bulb?

They'll eventually put out more heat than light, which defeats the purpose.
When I ran with hps, I liked to switch them out after each grow, but if im being honest - it was usually every 4-6 months depending on its usage & what I'd been running.
