Hps lights

i have been doing the research on lights and have found that most home security lights use either a mh bulb or a hps bulb.
has anyone considered using one of these?

it looks smaller than the grow light setups i have been seeing. doesnt look like it comes with a ballast but does look like it needs to be hardwired in. (not a big deal)

is one hps light the same as another? or are the bulbs different like fls (t-5, t-8, t-12)?

just a thought...i know im a newbie

If I Were You I'd Get A Hortalux Hps Bulb. From What I Know Those Have The Best Spectrum For Growing. I've Never Really Looked At Hps Bulbs From A Place Like Home Depot But Im Pretty Sure They Have A Different Spectrum.

if you want to buy a good hps set up for cheap try HTGsupply.com

they have a ready to go 400watt hps for $119... i think the home depot security lights are half the price but 1/8 the wattage.. your way better off with the 400

i have considered it, yes. but found that there are way better deals and that a 50 - 75 watt hps would not be sufficient for my needs...

it is smaller, yes. because it is lower wattage ( 50 - 75 ) the ballast is enclosed in the case. these things produce alot of heat so i would be very cautious as to ventilating it if i were to use it ...

no. there are, of course, lights that are more efficient than others. take for instance (as mentioned) the hortilux enhanced spectrum bulb versus a generic bulb ( you can fins tons of cheap bulbs at 1000bulbs.com). But being that you are a newbie and all, i commend you for atleast absorbing the fact that HID is the way you want to go!

i bought an aerogarden and did not get the results i was looking for. in fact pretty much killed the plants and gave up.

i jumped on riu sometime in December and have been viewing and searching all of the posts related to indoor growing, aerogarden, hydroponics, aeroponics, and all that.
so what i found out was i need to be educated in the field so to speak.

right now i am in the process of making an insulated grow box 2ft deep by 3ft long by 3.5ft high.

i plan on putting in aerogarden and then supplementing the light with some freebies that i have hangin around. just 2 ft floruos. but like 6-8 of them. gonna line the box evenly, hack the aero light to hang and then add either a 150w hps or mh light for flower.

atleast that the plan. i ahve my own house but limited space. feel like i just need to put in a little effort and i should be rewarded.
