Hydro vs Aero in practical application

I have what I believe is the correct guideline for the PPM and amount of nutrients to use from watching SeeMoreBuds, however he is using an aero type system and I am using an ebb and flow, can I still follow his feeding regiment or do I need to modify it? Thanks in advance

could you post your notes, on ppm schedule?

i dont see why it would matter. but what the hell would i know. only on my first grow. done a lot of research though.

i have always read 1/4 strength of whats suggested the bottle. maybe i read your thread wrong, but as i understand it PPM is how you measure your nutes. parts per million of total dissolved solids. more nutes higher the PPM. seems you referred to it as two separate things.

i have found with different plants they can take different nute levels. had one 1st week of veg 400ppm and burnt. the other i pushed to 700ppm same week of veg. this was bag seed.

i read no nutes on seedling. now that i use the cloner i starts off with ph tap water 250ppm as soon as i get roots 650-700ppm. no problems. these pics only the two in the small net pots are bag seed. others bubblelious and skunk#1.

hell forget what i said. maybe i should rethink my strategy. i may be a little on the high side. this dude has some good grows, and lots of knowledge. i found this quote from him in a different thread. he even says it really depends on the plant.

i've used GH 3 part through a few grows and will try to help.
my experience is limited to hydro but most of the info should translate well to soil.

if you are using tap water, you should keep your PPM very low (never over a 1000 PPM at most).

The strain can really determine how much nutrients the plant can take. Some strains can handle very high levels of PPM - but just because it can "handle" it doesn't mean it thrives that way.

as a general rule (your mileage may vary)..
no nutes until about 2 - 3 weeks old. in hydro - i actually start adding nutes the first week but keep it under 2-300PPM

So week 0-4 - under 300PPM
week 4-5 under 500 PPM
week 6 (transition to 12/12) back to 300PPM
week 7- 9 under 700 PPM
rest of grow under 1000 PPM

Note that some strains may not like anything over 300 or 500 PPM - so watch the plants!
This assumes switching to 12/12 during week 6 but you can adjust your time accordingly.

was this what you were looking for?

as for which nutes and how much - i use the GH feeding guidelines for ratio but reduce the amount. Does that make sense?

The aurthor of that DVD is a moderator right here on RIU. If you'd like you can address your questions to Garden Knowm...

are you asking if the watering schedule is the same for both aero and ebb&flow? the answer is no - aero waters all the time (at least until 12/12) - ebb&flow you need to put on a timer. i think you water for 3 or 4 minutes a few times a day - but DOUBLE CHECK - i am just guessing!

i am not an ebb&flow grower so unfortunately can not help you but you may find your answer in the FAQ or searching the site for "ebb and flow watering" or something like that.

yelodrvr, thanks for the kind words!

if you look through the seedbanks - some of the strains (blueberry comes to mind) even say - easy on the nutes (or some such).

quarter nutes is great advice and some plants can handle nutes much better than others. i had plants up over 2000 PPM until i understood the point wasn't trying to get the plant to take as much PPM as possible! the point is to not stress the plant while providing adequate food.

Thank you all for the responses. I dont think I stated my question clearly, what I had meant was can I use the same NPK nutrient ratio in hydro as in Aero, also can I use the same PPM levels? thanks in advance =)

yes, the PPM and NPK ratios would not change. PPM is determined by your plant and NPK ratios are determined by the current stage of the growth cycle.

i would mention that aero is considered a form of hydro. I think the best way to put it would be - all aero is hydro but not all hydro is aero. does that make sense?
