Hydrogardens.com Dry Nutrient Lovers Unite!

Once upon a time I ran water bottled nutrients, and then came an awakening to dry nutrient salts and the use of Jacks Professional Hydroponic mix. It worked serviceably well for a couple of years.

Then, an online search- shipping it is pricey!- and some networking amongst my friends yielded a discovery, there was a dry nutrients maker/formulator right here in Colorado!

Hydrogardens.com has been around awhile, yadda yadda. Their prices are very competitive with Jacks- and that means they're stupid cheap compared to anything that comes wet.

I bought their 'hi K' hydro formula, 5-11-26 with micronutrients. I also bought Yara Liva brand calcium nitrate, a fifty pound bag of epsom salt and another of MKP, aka monopotassium phosphate.

I think it's even better than Jacks because it mixes better, there are no insoluble granules, no dyes, it goes into solution fast and stays that way.

No, this isn't an advertisement, it's a legit thread to tell people about a good product- one that I've been using for a long time and can therefore personally recommend.

Who else here uses it, what products of theirs do you use and how do you like it?

I think those "hi-K" formulas meant to be mixed with calcium nitrate and mono-potassium phosphate are the best bet for people who don't want to mix completely from scratch. What's nice is that they're interchangeable with each other.

I use yara liva calcium nitrate, and MKP (i think it's haifa), from cropking.com, as well as their potassium nitrate. I just get MgSO4 from the pharmacy at the moment. They also have a similar "hi-k" formula called hydro-grow" that's just like jack's hydroponics as well

Urea (from urine) is actually a very poor source of nitrogen in DWC. It needs a medium with bacteria living in it to slowly convert the ammonia (broken down urea) into nitrites, and then nitrates.

With nitrate salts, you feed nitrates directly.

Agreed: but you can top that up by having lunch at the Hari Krishna temple, I'm merely pointing out that the costs of growing weed is getting fucking silly due to the marketing of these nute companies, ... guys its a weed and will grow anywhere, yes if you have a correct grow gear and lights you can grow great plants, the nutes is not the important aspect here

This it's the future of the industry, as people wake up to just how overpriced water bottles nutes are.

I'm working with another nutrient manufacturer now, we're trying to put a complete nutrient source together with an A and B package to mix separately (like most other dry nutrients) and use.

The point of the complete dry A & B formula is that you will have a consistent baseline with a complete nutrient source, including such components as humates and fulvates. It's been tested for solubility, cleanliness, miscibility.

Having good nutrients in appropriate radios has been demonstrated to lead to top quality results time and again, while it won't make up for mistakes elsewhere, a good complete base formula can be peace of mind for growers whose priorities may lie elsewhere. As an example, a breeder will/should insist on a very stable product from batch to batch, so his breeding results are consistent. Anything less ruins his data, as his ability to compare between runs depends in large part on the quality and consistency of the nutrient used.

EDIT to address cost; these are designed from the outset to be drastically cheaper than water bottled nutrients, especially those with a premium mix of proven beneficial additives. On the order of ten times cheaper by volume of prepared solution.

The concept revolves around full disclosure of all ingredients used, simple to weigh out, altering ratios between A & B gives veg and bloom formulas. If the grower decides to add other ingredients, of course that's up to them- but this is designed to be an excellent all inclusive stand alone nutrition source, especially made for use in high performance indoor gardening.

spent 13 on 100 g of moab...looked up same ingredients and got 3lb. for same price of exactly the same stuf,it even looks exact as If moab was buying it 0-52-32 bulk and just putting the stuf in a fancy labeled jar.anyways,anyone else do the hammerhead moab thing?

so im hearing.in fact lucas formula is pointing that out on his website that pk boosters aren't needed.just good light and great genetics.just don't overwater.

I think I heard it somewhere recently, and it applies more to nutes than anything else; KISS.

I have and used it, it did wonders for my plants

I dig the idea of just watering.I will be doing it soon once I run out of all my nutes.I figured the cost with everything on his list and it comes out just about $250.It should fill 32 5 gallon buckets in 2 4x4 tents.Yes those are tight rooms but its all I got at the moment.cant wait to do a full room of gage green daybreaker.

So why all the organic soil discussion in a dry nutes thread? Aren't there plenty of threads for that already? Not hating, let's just stay on topic for those who are looking for info about dry nutes and Hydrogardens.

Speaking of, I find it pretty stable once the batch is pH balanced. If pH raises rapidly, that's usually a sign the plants want higher EC. If pH falls, they might be telling you EC is too high.

MKP is the basic salt and it's cheap from the manufacturers too; $75 for fifty pounds of it. More than I'll ever use lol.

I get MKP (monopotassium phosphate) 5lb at a time. A greenhouse doing hydro should have a 50lb bag.

Like ttystikk is saying, koolbloom is basically a rip off.

Big agricultural companies like haifa have MPK for a lot cheaper than any of the retail brands, and many places online will rebag 1-5lb in sandwich bags to sell in smaller than 50lb.

PK boosters that have more K are pH balanced with potassium hydroxide. That's why the K is higher for some PK formulas.

Still using hydro-gardens.com 's dry nutrient salts and I'm still cranking out the hits. It is very nice to be able to mix just four items for every nutrient mix I need.
