HydroOne Ontario, No bill for 3 months, since May

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has had this before. I have not received a bill since May and i should have rec. my Aug bill by now.
When I log into my Hydro One account it says that I have a credit of over $2500.00(payments I made for last 2 months) and shows last bill as May.
I do use a lot of hydro, up to 400 kw a day now and was about 275 kw a day back in may.
I am just wondering what I should do?
Should I just keep on paying what I think Or should I call them?
I am legal and have 2 Licenses for my property but don't want the hassle of having to explain the high usage.

What would you do?

Keep paying what you believe is fair, no money lost. If you notice after your scripts expire and still a nice balance, ask them to cut a cheque, big money gained.

To me, it sounds like Hydro One has changed your billing cycle to quarterly instead of monthly, and has maybe charged you extra over the months (explains the credit) to help buffer the much larger quarterly bill, for a little while anyways.

If thats not the case. I wouldn't say anything. I would just keep an eye on that credit. Once/if it hits zero, and you haven't received a bill, then make a call.

I wouldn't give them another cent until that credit gets used up...unless they're paying you interest on that credit...lol

Duh...you said the credit is from the last 2 payments you made, that changes things...maybe make the call now or wait until the warning notices show up, then make the call. Either way its not your responsibility to bill yourself.

Thanks for the replies.

I forgot to mention that about a month ago i did call and ask if they had switched me to paperless billing and was told no. I asked where my bill was and was told that it was under review. I joked saying have you been charging me to much. He said he didn't know and I didn't question it to much.

I am on equal billing so same monthly payment and it is suppose to balance out at end of year. But when I look at the last bill I owed over $2500.00 because I was always using more than what they where billing for.

So in my mind the credit of over $2500 is for the last 2 months and I would be carrying a dept. of over $2500 due to the equal billing. And my account says last bill May.
I am using more power now than in May so if I pay the same amount I will just fall further behind.
Who knows just don't want them to turn it off for some stupid reason.

My deal is that I have heard of hydro company's reporting high use to the police and I would like to stay off their radar with the changes coming next year.

Hey sunni

Ya I guess you are right about how it looks by not calling. I guess its years of being paranoid before I got my Lic.

I will think about calling again and see if I can get more info than before.

Will let you know if I do.

you should call them youre a customer of their company
ask them to easily explain your bill to you, so that you can figure out what the heck is going on

the chances of them even being remotely suspicious of you is so slim to none,
if they wanted you , youd be in jail by now lol
i mean come one its been since may...like thats almost 3 months by now

Call the damn company, ask politely for them to explain it to you in simple folk manner and be on your merry way

Ok I called and was told that it was a billing issue and that they did a system change over and to just wait for the next bill which they don't know when it will be.

So I could believe a change over to a new system could delay it, but for 3 months?

I will just keep paying the same And wait and see.

Thanks from the paranoid Rustydog. Lol

This just doesn't happen, at least in Canada. It's not in the power companies best interest to send paying customers to jail. The only time a hydro company will rat someone out to the cops, is if that person is stealing power from them. If you pay your bill they are more than happy to keep taking your money and turning a blind eye.

Furthermore, in Canada I don't think any power companies will cut your power for delinquency, I talked to them before about this they said it's almost unheard of. There are too many legal liabilities that come up if you turn off someone's power. For example, you don't know if they have medical equipment that needs power to run, etc.

Imagine the power company cuts off someone that needs their dialysis machine to run, and that person died? Not the news story they would be looking for.

Ive been in situations where I didnt have enough to pay the electric and I just called them to make payment arrangements. A comment was made once that my usage was high. I said yes its high. He said he was just making sure I knew and there was no discussion about it. They just wanted payment. Thats been my experience.

@thirsty, Ive had my power cut. They send final notice and warnings. They will cut it.

Yup they will cut it, first its like a yellow door hanger, then a green one, then a red one then hydro guy knocks on door for payment. If no payment he shuts the power off it happened to my buddy when he got laid off
