I started some Northern Lights about a month ago and everything was going great. Then the bottom leaves started turning yellow and curling. I didn't think it was nute burn as I had not added any nutes and I watered carefully. Come to find out the soil I had used was some stuff left over from my wifes flowering and it was SCOTTS with time-released nutrients. I know not to use that kind of stuff but I guess I didn't read the bag carefully. My babes are ill....can I transplant to new soil or am I screwed? Thx

don't toss 'em yet. I did an experiement on my current batch where I put in osmocote time release nutes into 4 of the 8 seedlings... they becamse pretty messed up (developmentally way off- curled leaves, pinched stems, ect). I transplanted and removed the time release pellets and each of them is doing very well. I suppose the true test will come during flowering- if they all become males.

Is there anything worse than some yellowing of the lower leaves? How long have you had them going? From seed or clone? If not, then don't worry about transplanting until or unless they're becoming root-bound.

If it were me, I'd start feeding them weakly, maybe something like fish emulsion, at 25%-50% the recommended dosage for vegetables and herbs, that's got a decent amount of nitrogen in it (you don't need a fert with 20%-30% nitrogen, 5% is fine, and even that can burn), along with molasses and a topdressing of something that has mycorrhizal fungi and soil microbes in it (I really like Dr. Earth as it doesn't smell bad if made into a tea, but am currently using Happy Frog as its cost is slightly less, always dosing every two weeks or so with Super Plant Tonic for a wet live culture of microbes).

See, if you've been giving them nothing but water, then there's little reason for them to suddenly become burned. Nitrogen is a mobile nutrient, so what the plant will do is move it from older (usually lower) leaves into th newer leaves so it can continue its objective, which is to grow.

sounds like they need some nitrogen.

marijuana uses 10 times more nutes than house plants. that soil is time release for house plants not pot. your lower leaves turn yellow and die when they are starving. if they are a month old and you haven't fed them yet then they need nitrogen.

Ok...I learned something today. I repotted my poor sad babes into new soil and larger pots. I had no idea how fast and large the root system on these pups grow. The roots had hit bottom and were climbing back up the inside wall. No wonder they weren't happy! Now I know. Thanks all
