hi all,
I've been growing in hand watered coco for a few cycles now and im pretty happy with it so far. i water to run off then pump the run off out of the trays, it works pretty good, but i've been wanting to set up a drain to waste system that i can automate. the problem im running into is that i grow @ a vert bulb and can not put a tray under the pots ( flood tray). also i would like to be able to keep the pots on the ground if possible. if i raise the pots up a foot or so off the ground it would be easy to set up but im looking for a bucket system i can keep on the ground. any ideas or links for diy systems would be apreciated.

Super simple

you can use titan ebb&grow buckets and use the control box to pump waste out!
this would be ground level. Use 1/4 in. Drip hose to feed with.

you will need to flip the drain switch with the flood switch, but real easy

nice ty. ill check it out. still trying to figure out how to do it myself lol. its funny that like 12 inches lower makes it so much more complicated than if i put in a flood tray or just raised the pots, but i wouldnt be able to get to the back plants as easy.

i was looking at these 3 gal buckets at hd today. they are the same outside diameter as 5 gal so i could use it as an insert. then just drain the 5 gal once or twice a day. there would be like 8 in space between them. do you thnk the inch or 2 of water in the bottom would cause a prob with the roots later in the grow?
2nd idea, same 3 gal buckets, just drill a bunch of holes in the lid run a drain line fron the side near the bottom and just set my smart pots on top of it lol. i could use the drain line to pump the water out of the 3 gal every once in a while :o.
sorry im a little distracted i just remembered i downloaded invader zim eats waffles bongsmilie

so how would you be doing the watering? The problem with double bucket systems is that there is basically zero aeration, so yould need either aeration in the bucket or to just bubble.the fuck out of your res. although i just got a new pump that looks like it has a 3/4 out and an additional barbed 1/4 on the side, and i was wondering if anyone has tried using that with a powerful airpump to aerate the drip feed directly?

well, the outside bucket would be empty, it's just to catch the run off till it gets pumped out and used to water other plants. o2 shouldnt be a prob esp if i grow in smart pots and just use the bucked to catch run off. im watering alot more frequently this grow than i have before as i noticed that my smart pots were air pruning my roots like 3 in away from the sides of the pots lol. im trying to figure out a wat to automate. the drip system is np to set up, its dealing with the run off without using a 4x4 tray and raising my whole grow up a foot lol. i could do that but it would restrict my access to the back plants + all other things being equal, cheaper is always better. o2 is alot bigger deal in recirculating systems imo. you could just rig a venturi into the line, or use an air pump to move the water in the first place like a waterfarm.

bury a automatic sump pump and small res into the floor sit your trays on the floor and plumb them to it. or get a bato system and plub it to the res

i ended up using 5 gal buckets as stands for stands for my smart pots. i ran a drain line from the bottom and drilled a bunch of 1" holes in the lid. it would hold alot of water before it could drain tho so i had to put everything up on 8" blocks.
