The science of climate change is very well established and accepted by virtually the entire scientific community. If you don't accept it, you don't accept scientific facts. If you don't accept scientific facts, you can't make good or accurate judgments based on them. And if you can't do that, you should not be allowed to be in a position that has real world affects on millions, if not billions, of peoples lives.

How about those who don't believe the Higgs boson is real?

I wouldn't want climate change deniers to hold public office either. But that's rightfully and legally controlled by the voters.

Certain occupations depend on people knowing their shit inside and out, I'd argue politician is near the top of that list

Why doesn't it matter what a politician believes if what they believe will demonstrably harm other people? Would you care if a politician believed in the literal translation of Islam? You would, right? Because that belief is fundamentally opposed to what most people generally accept represent American values. The exact same applies to a politician who believes in a literal interpretation of Christianity or any other unverifiable belief

The VOTERS should decide who holds public office Pada.
Each member of every science panel should have a vote, but no more than one apiece.
The right of people to choose their own representation should not have any influence by any scientific panel, aside from advice. The voters choose to believe the advice, or reject it. Which is currently guaranteed by law. With no approval from any fucking scientists required. Whether they're right or wrong in their theories.
The will of the public must decide who holds office. Otherwise, we all lose our rights.
