If you only had $150 for a single plant grow light what would you do?

The rapid led kits im running are available with vero 29 push in style cobs as well. The timber kits are all pre wired, just bolt em to a frame. I thought the value of the rapid led kits was better though they are not passively cooled which i think is the only draw back. Kick ass enclosure/heat sink setup though.

Explain away the price difference to get a pair of COBs. They cost a little more upfront but will make the difference back in like 2-3 months. Less power from the wall, less heat meaning less fans etc, and blah blah. :bigjoint:
It's true though.

A pair of COBs running at 100w will give more light than a 250w hps with little heat.

If you plan to upgrade in the future, just add more COBs.

I switched from a 400w hps to 6 cobs totaling 330w and the difference in growth/harvest is crazy. :hump:

Dude is on a tight buget, think hes setup with a great couple options through cobkits! Yes, they are well worth the investment!

Cobs or QB LED 150w can range around $160 at least that's what I payed for my diy QB. For veg that would be good.

I checked out those sites ya'll were talking about.

which COBS are better.. the CREE CXB 3590 or the Citizen CLU 058-1825's?

I thinking about building a COB light.. after doing some research last night I've noticed as long as you build the frame yourself it isnt expensive at all!

I never knew the most expensive part about COB lights is the damn frames!

the actually LED's/Driver/Adapters/Reflectors are pretty cheap.]

I wanna build a COB setup that will do both flower and veg.. I planned on doing a 4 light system using two 2700k LED COB's and two as close to 6500k I can get

You can't go wrong with either of those...

Grow space size determines the min and maxes... there are tons of options within that which vary in pricing and availability...

Hence my original reason for asking my question.

Single plant in a 2x3x8 space and under $150...

Only thing that fits under 150 is a 400w hps/mh.

Next closest is the cobkits recommendation followed closely by the quantum boards.

I am looking at a diy quantum board right now using the Samsung strips to see how cheap I can make it... so far... not much cheaper than the qb

10-20$ in angled aluminum will build you a frame. If youre only running 4 cobs, 3500 or 4000 will be your best bet. You will really only get benefit of mixed spectrum running many chips at a lower drive current. Think about it, half of your space will be lit at 1 temp and half the other. And color temp is mych different than with other light sources. The spectrum is more complete and those temps will give you peaks where you want them. If going citi, go with the 90 cri, has a higher red peak.

2 2 packs of PAR30 Luminous Elite 3000k CCT flood lamps from costco for $6 after rebates. 11w, 830lms each, 40 degree angle, each one hits 650 PPFD at 30cm and cover about 1ft2 of canopy. 4 should cover a plant.

Pretty decent option. I have a panel of cree household bulbs, mix of 6 5,000°k and 4 2700°k all 8.5 watt 800 lumens except 2 of the 5s are i think 11 watt 1,500 lumens. The 800 lumen bulbs i get 4 packs for 5$ at the home depots. I like to cut the dome covers down to 3/4" and line the inside with aluminum tape to make a pseudo reflector. Theres a thread on ic mag where a guy tests a bunch of these bulbs in lux comparing them to w/wo dome and against cfls. The numbers with the domes removed are astounding. I dont think its as practical of an option for an all purpose light as cob or quantum board but i love mine as a veg light. Currently rebuilding mine, going to use both my cob rigs as flowering lights. IMG_0173.JPG
