I have seen a multitude of new people post pictures of less then satisfactory plants ( not sick plants im talking about the long stretched out first grows with desk lamps ) they usualy ask how to help / change them or how they are doing so far. So i figured i would try to help people fix the problem befor it started. Don't think im trying to diss on the new growers its a hobby no one starts out knowing what their doing and its best to learn from experience which means making mistakes. but one thing that can help is the proper starting equipment. It is a hobby and it will cost you money to do it right but compared to the price of weed its really not that bad

heres a good start up package

1) 5 3 gallon grow bags + pro mix soil to fill them 30$ ( do a google search for plant / hydro shops near you they will have this )

2) general hydroponics maxi series dry nutrients 1 lb maxigrow (veg ) and 1lb maxibloom (flower) 27 $ ( 12- 14 $ each) ( order if off ebay or pick it up at the same store u get the dirt and bags from )

3) 5 feminsed seeds from nirvana shop around 40 $

4) PPM meter off ebay to measure the amount of nutes your feeding your plant ( they are 14 $ on ebay and like 60 $ anywhere else so use ebay for this ) ( this is also an optional item but its makes life easyer and its definitly worth the 14 $ but alot of people grow with out them so its personal choice )

4.5) Ph meter exact same deal as the PPM meter 14 $ on ebay the difference is instead of the testing the amount of nutes it tests the ph of your solution and the soil when measuring the drain off

5) refurbished 400 watt MH / HPS grow light with 3 year warentee ( search insidesun on google the have them for 125$ shipped which is 100$ cheaper then a new one and it works the exact same way save your self some cash ) ( another option is a 150 hps / mh lamp from econo lighting which is i think 20 $ ) I use 2 of the 400 watts from inside sun my self and they work great. I have no experience with the econo lights but some people on this forum can tell you more about those

6) TLC...... priceless

all added up right around 250 $ and if you folow the instruction and guidence of the people on this site and do your own research you will have 5 very beautiful healthy female plants which can yield you several ounces ( more if you choose to clone but thats more advanced then i am trying to get here ). Last i check in my area 236$ wouldn't get you an ounce of chron if your life depended on it. so in the end it pays for it self. Also once you get your first harvest done you could potentially sell part of it ( im not suggesting this but you could ?! ) to make up for your invested cash and maybe even a little more to expand your set up with better nutes, a home built or store bought hydro system, Co2 supplement, grow tent, cloning equipment, the list goes on for ever

I hope this was helpfull. i am not trying to burst your bubble here i am just trying to make your first harvest a successfull one and not another story on these forums with a 14 inch 3 noded plant growing in MG pre nuted trash soil, in a dixi cup under a desk lamp

Your right I think if your going to start this you should start with the proper equipment, I just bought everything I needed for now and I have spent a total of around $1200 there's a few things I could have done without example $200 grow tent 3x3x7 and my garden of ease hydro system around $90 but everything else was needed. I also purchased a $200 Milwaukee 3 in one tester which is definitely a need imo.

if you're going to buy a measuring tool, I would suggest a pH meter over a PPM meter. That's just me though. Also, for your first grow I would suggest CFLs over the more expensive MH/HPS setups. Lastly, and this is just me lol, but my first grow (unsuccessful as most first grows are) was with cheap bad seeds. You learn best by making mistakes, and I would rather make a mistake on cheap bagseeds than the nicer ones.

i guess i will try to adress this in order

since i was recomending a soil grow i figured a PPM meter was usefull but not needed for the first grow. but your right i should add a Ph tester on their as well they are also cheap on ebay im just trying to keep it fairly barebone but with all the essentials. Good light I just dont like cfls my first grow was with a T5 flouresent and then i switch to HPS and i will never go back. Good soil keep them away from the pre nuted garbage and good cheap simple to use food. As far as first grows being unsuccessfull thats what im making this thread for to make a first grow a raving success for the least amount of cost. sure mistakes will be made but with this forum and the information on it it should still be a bountifull one. ( how ever I have had some Real fun grows with bag seeds i am just to excited for my new nirvana babies to get finished first time with name brand and i figured for 40 $ u really can't go wrong )

i know i didn't say the t5 was a CFL its a FL but the T5 has more output then a cfl. I am not saying you can't get good results with cfls. but I am saying that the HPS will always give good results. ( unless their is user error )
