A woman from Round Lake Beach, Illinois is facing a possible felony drug charge after police found a narcotic pain medication in her coat pocket — which they only discovered because they mistook pistachio shells in her car for marijuana and used it as a pretext to search the entire vehicle.

The Northwest Herald reports that 59-year-old Nancy Pahlman has been charged with possession of a controlled substance after police officers found a bottle of tramodol in her coat pocket that had been prescribed to one of her relatives.

Even though Pahlman actually does have her own prescription for the painkiller, police arrested and charged her anyway for possessing a prescription that was not her own.

However, Pahlman’s attorney, Philip Prossnitz, tells the Northwest Herald that police did not have the proper authority to search her car. After pulling Pahlman over for speeding on January 5th, claims Prossnitz, a police officer mistook a pile of pistachio shells in the front of the car for marijuana, despite the fact that the two substances look very different.

Police did not find any actual marijuana in her car, but nonetheless busted her for possession of the pills.

Because of all this, Prossnitz is expressing confidence that Pahlman will not be prosecuted for drug possession.

“I think we are a motion to suppress and a bag of pistachio nuts away from resolving this matter,” he tells the Northwest Herald.

Twice a day I have to transport oxycontin and oxycodone over to my mom's house and administer it- I've been doing it for ~2 years now and I've wondered what would happen if the cops stopped me for some reason

Being the child of an Australian living in the US, I have been spared the emotional roller of knowing weather or not my mother being taken care of.
They would come once a week, bringing anything medical needed and most importantly check vitals while just shooting the shit, shooting the shit was the best medicine.
The nicest caregivers one could ask for.

4 or 5 months ago blue cross called with a little questionnaire making sure I go to the Dr. for good health inspection and asked if there was any reason I couldn't make it in, I told them I was unable to drive due to meds and body fluid leakage. I havn't heard back.
I guess they are formulating something in my interest.
But hey! In the meantime Depends and uber are making a killing off of me.

The shells should be banned. Someone at Christmas years ago let a few shells get in the dishwasher. Couldn't figure out why it wasn't cleaning the dishes until I tore into the disposal part of the unit. Shells... Schedule 1

We are advancing as a society.

1974

“Plastic container —containing substance which field tested positive LSD. Gross weight of container was approximately 341 grams.” On Oct. 18—14 days atter the incident—Sharp received a letter from the Customs Service saying more thorough testing showed the Ovaltine was not LSD. He was told to come and1 get his plane, and pay the storage fee. Sharp said he planned to sue to get his Ovaltine back.

They could have tested the shells on the spot.
The sad part is she was probably wrongfully billed for towing and storage, no mention in the story as it has become a given.

Careful there, lots of nuts will test positive for other substances. Poppy seeds are a well known one, but there are others. Heck, there was a story where some hand soap field tested positive for meth and some poor schmo's spent weeks in jail until it got tested at a lab.

Look at it this way; field test kits cost less than a dollar a test, and there are NO standards on what they will or won't test positive for. If you sold a meth test kit that would test positive for any acidic substance between 4.5 and 5.5 for example, it would be perfectly legal to market. Meth would test positive. But so would just about any citris fruit and even some rain water.

But you could go to jail over a positive test, and have to wait for lab confirmation.

And the system would be happy it saved $0.20/test.

My mistake, I should of stated "Could of trained, tested the Police Recruit before placing into service."

These .20 cents saving are costing thousands.
