I'm a noob and here's my noob setup

OK, here is what I have done so far (today)

I got my timer:

Here is my fan. I know it's actually an air filter, but it blows plenty strong and it also has 4 fan speed settings. I used to use it in my room as a fan.

The setup is going in one of the spare room's bathrooms. Here's the drainage in the shower. It will be safe because this room is pretty much never used or seen by anyone unless they are actually looking for it.

Here is where I will be pulling power from:

Here's the top of my hood. It's not done yet, I did run a few of the wires though and hook up some of the sockets. I still need to figure out how to hang this thing form the shower ceiling. Right now there are 5 cords ready but I did make 4 other holes so I can expand later on when the plants are bigger and need more light.

Another picture of the top of the hood. I made it from the base of a large box. I took a paper clip and tied it around each of the wires then wrapped ducttape around the paperclip and the cord to keep the cord from pulling through the top and the lights dropping to the floor.:

Here is the underside of the hood, you can see I added a few sockets already, I'll add the rest tomorrow:

Here is my little mids testing plant:

And here are my bulbs for now, until I order some real seeds at which point I'll probably buy 6 - 9 of the 42w CFL's, a mix between the veg lights and the flowing lights.

=======================================

Now for my questions.

A. Do you think that power source will be enough juice to power 6-9 42w CFL's? And what will I do about my timer seeing as how that source is connected to a light switch?

B. Is my hood OK? I know it's not reflective but I was worried to put wrapping paper on the underside for fear it would be a fire hazard, what do you think?

C. Why the hell does my plant get droopy at night? It the day it's perky but at night it gets all droopy and saggy. Then in the daytime, it comes back to life, is this normal? I want to get these details ironed out before I buy and plant some real seeds.

Thanks!

I don't know why your hardwiring cfls.. The hood is ok if thats what you want to go with, but it's obviously a fire risk being cardboard, and definitely a fire risk using cardboard and hardwiring unless your an electrician or something (but either way it's definitely a fire risk!). Where do you have the plants right now? outside? inside by a window? If your in North America it's winter and your definitely not getting enough light right now. If it's under a cfl, you need more, and closer..Hopefully someone else throws in some input.

Those lights are great for starting from seedlings or clones, but will simply NOT make your crop bud hardly anything at all. You need fresh are getting to the plants.. a oscillating fan is good, but you need to ventilate your area. Plants LOVE fresh air. Also, get rid of that cardboard before you burn your house down!! Plus, you will need a larger light once the plants reach at LEAST 6 in.

Right now my plant is under two of the 24w lights. Seeing as how it's only a couple inches from the light and the plant is still very small, this should be OK till I figure my hood out. Plus on nice days, I take the plant outside for diirect sunlight then put it back under the CFL's at night.

What can I make a hood out of? :(

You can make the hood out of pretty much anything. I made mine out of wood and aluminum flashing. And just put some mylar on it so it will reflect more light.

reflectors are easy...go to the dollar store and buy a baking pan...go to walmart get sockets in the electricians department...they are 1.27 a piece. buy one of the cords there for a dollar or so...cut your holes...wire the sockets and place in the pan...screw in your bulbs...figure a way of hanging and your set.

I noticed you have a "daylight" bulb out of the pack. I'm guessing that's what you're using? Take the other bulb out, and put the other daylight bulb in. I can't see the spectrum for the other one, but I'm guessing it's more for flower. Switch the other one out, and get that wired up in a hurry. ps, it's really not a good idea to use the cardboard, with hand wiring and all.

Your idea of using the bathroom is perfect, but your electrical plans are very unsafe don’t use that cardboard!!!! Instead hang a pole at the top of the shower and just drop a few hooded lights with your cfls this will also help direct the light to your plants. Tie a rope to the clamps of the hooded lights and use this to adjust height.
This is VERY important were ever you plug anything in be sure it is a GFI switch. If water hits it the switch will trip and not your panel.
Good luck!

Yea I did, there are two blue tinted ones in now. I'm actually on my way to buy two socket splitters so I will have a total of 4 running. Then I just need to get either a MH or HPS running up there in that light socket for when they start flowering. I'm going to the hydro shop tomorrow or saturday

cardboard box hood, are you kidding me?!?

i dont understand some people? you would be better just hanging the lights.... why risk a fire?

that socket you plant to run 400 watts or so of power out of is probally rated at 100 watts max! so thats also safety concern.

you dont need to be a genius to grow weed succsefully, just need a little common sense, and no offence but that cardboard box hood with loose wires and sockets hanging through the box is probally one of the dumbest least safe ideas i have ever seen!

if you dont have enough common sense to be safe, good like trying to grow weed!
