..and pretty clueless when it comes to LED's, but i've seen some nice results. i'm doing a side project with some autos in soil and i'm wondering if anyone with experience can recommend a decent LED that will cover about a 2x2 area. only gonna be running one or two autos at a time.

thanx for your time and i'm looking forward to learning as i grow :)

peace :leaf:

1-2 plants? I'd go PG180 for full cycle. I might try a Kessil H350 Magenta too.... both are going to illuminate a 2x2 area extremely well.

The 200 watt advanced Diamond series would do a great job too.

You're looking at between $300-500 for quality LED lighting. (The PG180 and DS200 will both do more than a 2x2 area btw, the Kessil is designed for 2x2 exactly)

You could do a Blackstar 240 from Gotham Hydroponics as well if you want something cheaper....

not a huge price change from Blackstar 240 and PG 180 though. If I could do it over again (which i will in a few weeks) I would have bought the PG180 for $309 over my Blackstar 240 for $270. I didnt know about Beefbisquit and all his wisdom when I made that fateful mouse click on ebay...

sweet thanx for the reply :)

so the pg180 is equipped and ready for veg and flower?.. i'm gonna be doing autos with it, so it doesnt matter, but i'd like to just learn as much as i can about LED's :)
the Kessil in your opinion is not as efficient? i'm gonna be using the corner of my veg room which is run on 20/4, might even be a lil less than 2x2 :-| lol..

thanx!

My question is, how does something like a Pro-grow 180 or Blackstar 240 compare to a 250W HPS?

Yes it has two switches on the panel, one for veg mode and one for flower mode. With both on its full spectrum, and thats what you should use throughout the whole grow, I use just the veg mode on seedlings and starting plants. The Pro-Grows are great for autos, if you actually check out the Hydroponics Hut website they have journals with autoflower growing, pretty nice results too.

@Jogro, I think the PG260 would be more reasonable to compare to a 250w HPS. It is an actual 180w draw.

The Kessil is spotlight style LED lighting. It's around 90 watts, and it uses Dense matrix LED's which have a bunch of LED's on one chip. It allows for more even spectrum distribution, and because it's a high wattage system with so much light emanating from a single focal point, it stands to reason the penetration would also be extremely good.

I'm not sold on them, because I haven't used them; but they sure look cool! LOL

I have a kessil h350 on a 2x2 area with 4 seedlings. The light is bright; you cant look at it directly. Hopefully Ill have a harvest update in a few months. Ill be doing a scrog with little veg.
