image.jpg The learning curve is sharp, it will cut your ego and your wallet or purse whichever you choose. I hope this story helps. Before I started growing I started scanning the web....#1 All I knew was "light bulbs" so that's what I searched. I found people growing with Home Depot cfl bulbs. I thought DAMN I can do that!!! Don't bother spending the money. Yes people grow weed with them but the number of people who are unhappy with their yield far outnumber the people that are dropping pounds. If you are on this forum then you are ready to GROW. it might be just one plant but DO IT RIGHT. Buy a passive light engine with 1 cob from @CobKits along with a driver, he will help you. I promise you will save money the first 60 days. The blurple lights, I'm using them now and my yield is alright..... But I still spent more in the long run on the blurple fixtures than with my LED light engines. When you cut your power consumption in HALF!!! You are saving money. I wasted my time with a home built CFL fixture

When I could have turned my dollars into buds with something like this. See top picture, 4 CXM22 cobs with 133mm passive heat sinks.
Hey this is all just my opinion, I hope it helps a new grower... BY THE WAY STOP OVER WATERING.

Agreed. The learning curve is a bit of an incline. But once you've got the idea down pat. Pretty much every prefab light on the market looks over priced.

I started with a "smart" 90w (actual) blurple COB + LED array. Which cost me just as much as as my manual dimmed 200w Vero 29C setup. The performance of the latter makes the smart cob look over priced and underwhelming.

It's well worth the effort to learn how to build your own light setups.

I agree, building a light is even more cost effective. I purchased the light engines.... Heat sinks and cobs already together..... I built the frame and purchased the driver with the current I wanted.

thanks for the rep gogo. ill have affordable frame kits soon which will be helpful. many people find that to be the most daunting part of the project
Yes, I can see where it could be. I'm a everyday user of tools..... All sorts, and it still takes time to get things right

Yeah. It was one of the issues actually. I didnt know how wide to space the cobs. Or how I was going to build the frame.

I'll be drilling my holes to mount the 133mm cobs tomorrow. Hole center is 5mm from bottom of cob.... Just saying lol. I actually should have bought 5 engines and configured them in a square with one in the middle. But this will work for now.

I didn't even know what I was going to end up doing with my space. I had almost 2 feet with the side wall in place. But another foot just behind that.

My first idea was to veg one plant plant. And flower another. Now the whole thing is a full cycle grow space. Making the position of the cobs a little off where they should be positioned.

I stagger mine, I veg a couple of photos while I'm flowering my autos. But if I have a photo die or just not survive for some reason it leaves me with one plant flowering in a big space. I would love to split my room but haven't figured that out without light leakage

The white square up the top is the original size of my grow space. The unpainted section is where I had all the electronics and the storage off the side.
