Everyone is so dug-in to their beliefs, more families have been ripped apart simply by difference of opinion, probably more in the last 5 yrs than ever before in recorded US history. I have nothing but anecdotal opinion and also personal experience, I have relatives that have voted Red since Reagan or maybe Nixon, but now some have jumped ship & it is all-out war within the family. This has NEVER happened before.

I don't blame any one side specifically

The politicians we get in America are a literal byproduct of our own circumstances. No exceptions.

We dig-in harder and harder into our own nonsenses, so now we get politicians who legit think there are "Jewish space lasers" or that their Liberal constituents eat actual babies.

I tiptoe around politics with my sister. We grew up Republican and she stayed that way while I took a tire-squealing left.

My kids otoh turned out ok. My son sends me vids from socialists and syndicalists, and we can argue it without fighting. My daughter moved to Wisconsin where she learned to be discreet around maga-minded folk.

Human rights, equal rights, racism are not "opinions" they are hard stances and they shouldnt be tolerated, peoples families arent being ripped apart because of opinions theyre leaving family members who would rather have people unalive themselves than be trans, people who are full force racists and believe proud boys etc are "very good people"

No, I'm not talking about blatantly racist relatives, those types should always take a fat hike. I'm talking about the actual political opinions of family members tearing at the fabric of that family. I feel like it's happened WAY more in the last few years, as it has happened within my own family. And BTW a bunch of what you said is still based on opinion, for example you mentioned someone who'd rather see ppl die than be queer; that's a hard opinion, even if some Asshat tries to be tough and verbally state those words it's still their opinion. And i agree, again, based on OPINIONS that people need to quit worrying about where other people put their private parts.

Really depends on the family. My brother would lean Conservative (party) my sister NDP or Green party, I am more in the middle. That said, any of us would go to hell and back for the others, I retired early because of an illness and my brother asked if I needed some money he could give me some. As compared to my sister's husband's side of the family. They are jealous of each other and have had fights where some do not speak to the others for a year or more. Mind you, his sister was the one ended up in a coma from covid, which she said was a hoax and they inject you with a chip. To sum it up in one sentence, my sister's side of the family is a lot brighter than her husband's side (he sides Conservative, he really was not a good match for her).
