Interested in trying the "real" / good forms of the classics

Hi all,

I am a new grower currently 2 months into my first grow of:
- Afghan Kush (a pure indica)
- NL #5 x Haze (a supposedly strong sativa)

My idea was to try one indica, and one sativa for my first grow :)

For my second grow, I'd like to try out 3 older but classic strains. Could anyone help me identify which breeders carry reliable fem seeds for the strains I'm interested in?

1) White Widow
2) Blueberry (I hear DJ Short is no longer reliable so... maybe I have to give up on this one?)
3) ?? (any recommendations for a classic that still is worth trying?)

I go through attitude and seedsman currently.

thank you!

That's awesome! I was actually browsing through the classics today. :weed:

A lot of strains from World Of Seeds looked good. "Wild Thailand" peaked my interest.
I was also browsing through White Label Seeds, reminiscing about the Super Skunk days. & Serious Seeds, I've always wanted to try "Chronic" & "Bubblegum".

It's too bad about Blueberry. There's a bunch of seed banks that have a Blueberry, i guess the best we can all do is just buy & try lol. :peace:

One that I'm after (that I'm not sure how popular it is outside my region) is bubba kush. I'd say, Bubba Kush + White Widow are the 2 I'd love to try ideally, and then the 3rd and last strain is undecided.

I see Chemo is an indica, I'm also a big indica fan :) Very very very excited for the afghan kush I have going on, probably flipping them to flower in 1 more week :)

I think I just saw that strain too, I was just browsing World of Seeds on seedsman. What have you been growing lately?

Dr. Greenthumb's Iranian Diesel & Turkish Delight (everything from Dr. Greenthumb is bomb), Strawberry Banana, some cuts of OG. & also White Ice I picked up from my Rasta homies in Jamaica.
Recently tried Humboldt Seed Org. Pineapple Skunk, it made me want to try more of their strains.

Welcome to the fantastic world of growing cannabis! The only way you could really approximate those classics is by getting a proven cutting from someone, or running a lot of seeds to find "the one" keeper in the bunch, which is easier said than done. I would actually steer away from those "classics" and look for modern takes on the characteristics you like. For a blueberry, look at Dynasty Genetics' Oregon Huckleberry line, would be my one specific tip for you. Real White Widow seems like it must be everywhere, but most I have seen grown from seed do not stack up to the original clone at all. Go modern, you will be glad you did. If you are looking for a good classic biker skunk I wish you luck, that legit old polecat stank is hard to find.

I've wondered about that -- the ability to maintain a strain between different breeders, let alone different breeders across multiple decades...

A lot of the classics are gone in seed form at least.

You mentioned bubba kush check out CSI a humboldt...they have a Bubba Kush S1 feminized...dudes legit and from Cali where a lot of the fire comes from. A few other have decent Bubba renditions.

If you're determined to run WW (there's a lot better out there) I thought Nirvana had a nice White Widow I kept a cut for years I'll throw a few pics below...

My advice is go with some fire new stuff. There's so much good things being done these days that the classics can't hold a flame to. Unless you're looking for Sativas which doesn't sell these days since everyone is overhyped on cookies,,,but a lot of solid poly hybrids out there..

If you're in the US check out greatlakesgenetics, thedankteam, oregoneliteseeds, jamesbeancompany, etc.... All US banks with a lot of US based seed co.'s...

Those Nirvana WWs below.. Cheap as hell and I found a pretty good pheno that stayed in the garden for a few years.

Seems like sensible advice, thanks very much. I had found humboldt seed company's bubba -- maybe i'll check that out and then try something new on top of that.

You think stuff like northern lights is still good?

Take a look at Mr Nice auctions for white widow (it's actually black widow which is the real deal).
For blueberry DJ's new company Old World Genetics has F4 blueberry which is probably the best representation out there. They are $100 a pack from James Bean.
NL5 - Sensi have a fem version but unsure how stable it is. Bodhi's NL5 is as close to the original but good luck finding it!
Skunk - The Pure from Flying Dutchmen is the real deal from Sam the Skunkman.
