Hey cobkits, I was wondering what would be a nice setup for a 4x4 tent was looking at your clu048s that you've got on sale for $9, what would be better for a flowering light 80 or 90 cri, was looking at 3000k or 2700k ? Or a mix of both :-) or is there something else I should consider for a 4x4 space? Thanks :-)
I'd do 9-12 90cri 3000k 1212's.

12 1212s @ 45-50W or 9 luminus at 65-70W ea will be similar

while the 1212s are cheaper you might save with the luminus (fewer heatsinks and holders)

i agree 3000k 90 cri for flower only

Running 4 CLU048-1212's wired in series, ~144v/~200w, sounds like a bad idea on these, yes? I can't post links but it seems like where you can find ratings for these things (digikey, not really the amazon/ebay listings) it's typically 12v 5a. They do accept thick wire, but whatever is inside sounds like the weak link.

At 3:07 growmau5 is using the same connectors I have for a high voltage setup but doesn't mention any voltage/current concerns.. I use them for 12v applications like my heat sink fans, and ~20v low current solar applications, but for connecting remote drivers to my fixture it seems a little... sketch?

Voltage and thickness of wire are unrelated. For example, when wiring PBX telephony extensions I am dealing with a constant 34-50v that peaks at 150v when a line rings, on hundreds of feet of 22 awg pairs. The incredibly low amperage makes the current extremely weak. Simirlarly if i take apart a transformer from A microwave for example I can unwind the outgoing coil and replace it with 2-4 wraps of 8-10 gauge then use the 2-3v it creates to melt a framing nail in less than 5 seconds. Amperage is what blows inadequate circuits more often than voltage unless you are over driving a rated component on the board like an ic or capacitor beyond its max voltage.

Think about how a fuse works, it's a thin wire filament designed to be the weak point if amperage draw exceeds safe levels, not voltage.

I bought 8 - CXM22s preassembled kits and 2 MW HLG-320H -48A drivers to cover a 2x4 ft area. I calculated the area based on my 2x2 flood trays. After seeing the plants grow to maturity, the area is more like 3x3ft at the canopy. So my questions are these:

1) are 4 CXM22s enough for a 3x3ft space
2) would it be overkill OR ideal to have 9 cobs for a 3x3 ft canopy?
3) if its ideal, would the drivers I bought be able to power 9 CXM22s each so I can have 1 cob per sq ft?

Any thoughts and ideas are appreciated. Thank you, Sir!

^Roger that, I've always believed that too but it wasn't until recently that I started paying attention to things like the voltage rating of wiring,
Been swamped with work but finally got this 9 cob light assembled. I was going to test this in a 4x4, but should I entertain quantum boards in pictured locations?

My 640w setup in another 4x4 has to be throttled back considerably, hence testing something in the lower-mid 400w range

Do you need more light? it will make your array less uniform. will be fine if you hang it high enough

I guess that was part of the question, I wasn't sure if I had skimped on light for a 4x4.

What did you see that made you dial down your 640w light?
That light is on its maiden flowering cycle right now and plants just seem stunted if I exceed about ~70% power even at 2 feet canopy height. I'll try to crank it higher in a bit as I near 35ish days of flower

I'd like to see this done with just 1 light. Here is his quote:

"That plant is under 1 Autocob, not even under it. And getting side light from the Coco girl light. And they are not close to the plants either. 3 plants in there under 3 Autocobs. I will take a pic to show you guys."

So there are three Cobs in there throwing light out in all directions. So he used 165w to grow that. 214/165= 1.3 GPW

I'd say more like 2.0 but in any event, I have seen people exceed 2.0 gpw with just 4 cobs at 55 watts each. My point is there's seems to be a balance between levels and strains, the trick is finding what your strain/s want. Is it too much light only when you see them start to burn, or has the plant actually maxed out long before that?

I absolutely agree, and I hope I didn't come off as a jerk! I've been re-reading the Far Red thread and there is some good talk about DLI which I've never really thought too much about before. @Photon Flinger has really piqued my interest in this as he had/is only giving the plants around 6 hours of light. I've also thought about how much light is too much and if it's the sustained source that can cause problems. Perhaps the guys that run the lights for a few hours on, a few off throughout the day for veg would help eliminate some of those problems. I'm also now thinking about the far red and how much rest time a plant needs before it can utilize whats it's captured. I wonder the impact of using some far red at the end of each of those veg intervals to put the plant to sleep right away so it can actually rest.

All that to say I would be very happy to have harvested that much off that low of wattage.
