Is it possible to successfully clone autoflowers with tissue culture, assuming I get the hormones right?

:-?

im not too sure about that, but if i were to guess i would say no only because when you start to grow the plant its like setting off a time clock and at anytime in the grow if you take your tissue culture you are stopping the clock where it was with that culture and when you generate that second plant it will start the clock from where it left off. just a hypothesis not fact, but it would be interesting to find out.

Bump.

This may have never been done.

Why couldn't I make a tissue culture think it's a seedling with proper hormones?

Imagine being able to chop one perfect mother into thousands of pieces. Then you could send them anywhere in the world in petri dishes.

Why mess with seeds when you can ship perfect phenos.

I know this works very well with non autos.

This could be worth a lot of money.

You might be able to do embryogenisis and then encapsulate the new embryo in an artificial seed coat but I don't think you can microclone autoflowering plants any more than you can clone them traditionaly.

What the fuck. And they say us stoners are lazy and uneducated. Yet here we are talking about encapsulating an embryo with an artificial seed coat. And shipping perfect phenos ..... Fuck labels man. We are smart no matter what they say.

Do it my man. Make history. Show them fucks who is boss when it comes to passionate biology. They cant shoot you down for being a genius and making an artificial seed. Just the though of artificial seeds. I think you might create a paradox.

This is the day we have a hiccup with what really is. Can you get artificial when it comes to seeds let alone plants ?

I suppose it can be done ValleGrown but I don't see the point. Unless of course you have some sort of special dna that you can't get seeds from. I find it interesting that theoretical you can grow haploid plants from pollen.

I'm going to start messing with this in summer when I have more time. Auto cloning would allow me to grow out a few nice Iranian Auto "mothers" in order to breed them and possibly create high yielding sativa and/or indica crosses without any photoperiod sensitivity.

..In theory...

Breeding autos is pretty difficult now because you can't keep mothers around long, and clones don't work well. Seeds have too many variations and I don't have money or room to grow out enough to isolate them all.

The hard part so far is figuring out a way to trick the damn tissue cultures into thinking they are "new" plants.

I suppose if you take your culture down to callus and then back to shoot and root from there you might reset the plant's clock.

It is being tested at this moment using Iranian Autoflower varieties. Will let you know how it works out. Seed starts will be introduced into culture and the donor plants and cultures grown under 18 hours light. Will the tissue culture plants flower in culture even though they are so tiny? TC plants will be divided into two new plants whenever they grow to 2-3" tall and recultured.

Would love to know if they had any success?

It will work fine with the strain you chose ..... Seeing how it's a photo period

no ...at least from this end

first up is the timing of the plant from veg to bud is in most strains 2-3 weeks

once any auto plant hits flower, you opportunity has been lost for any physical manipulation of the plant

for this reason many cloners have to revert their photo plants to veg again ...

then take them clone, or take them before the plant hits flower

as tissue culture takes time, effort (and cost) you window will be well closed

however some poor and inexperienced growers have had some luck cloning out the odd autoflower

but as the scion is the same age as the mother, its still a tiny toke

good luck

I was actually talking about this with a few of my friends that has dealt with tissue culture. The most effective way is to start with callus culture. The only problem here is they have never done this with a cannabis plant. Hypothetically, the best explants in this case should come from the taproot of a newly germinated seeds. The downside of this would be that you'll be sacrificing a seed and you'd have no idea the phenotype of the plant. The callus can be suspended indefinitely as long as there are no contamination from mold/bacteria and is kept well fed. Then when you're ready to start growing it, divide the callus and transplant it while saving the "mother". We also did some math and concluded that this is not cost effective unless you're planning on producing 50+ plants in one batch.
