Is It Time to Sex?

I've been vegging for 32 days now and my plants are about 10 inches high, with a nice set of leaves (5 or 6 nodes). Now I was thinking of isolating 2 out of the 4 plants-putting them on 12/12, to distinguish sex. Then eliminating the males, instead of wasting my time for a later result. Can I expect to sex them after a week of 12/12 then revert back to veg?

Yeah a week to 10 days they should show. I like to look at the stem and think to myself "does this stem look like it can hold up a big ass bud?". If so then I am ready to flower. :)

Well..................I'm indeed not ready to flower, but would like to eliminate my males. I'm just curiuos if forcing them to sex, then reverting them back to veg would be harmful. thanxs

Now 5 days into flowering there are calyx starting to form and I'm a bit worried. I wish I could post pics, but my cam will not get close enough. There are small pods forming, however, I have read that time will sometimes allow the pistils to emerge from the pods. Am I too premature on my judgements? What was the longest anyone has waited for a 100% diagnosis on their plants-flowering that is?

yeah the hairs come out before before the pods. i would wait a few days anyway, but i agree with widow on this

well, if the pods are shaped more spheric, than you definitelt have a male... Females will typically show pistils before anything (about 4-7 days into flower). If you are seeing pods and no pistils, then beware... Males mature faster than females and unless you pull the males soon, you may get seedy. Keep in mind, males finish 2-2.5 weeks earlier than females, so they become fertile quick.

Cool thanks for the input. When I checked today it is without a doubt-male. On the other hand though, the other sativa is female!! Very interesting how only the very top node shows the female characteristics. At any rate he's gone and she's back in the veg room.

Just a thought...since u have 2 rooms Veg and Flower why dont u cut clones and save ur plants the stress of forcing them an early flower (4 weeks its to early imo) and just cut some clones???

Omega is right on here.

Take the cuts from the growing plants, then number the clones based upon which plants they've come from. Then flower the adult plants. When you see the adult plants that have turned out male, those are the clones you want to throw away. Now, veg out the remaining female cuttings for and completely flower out the remaining female adult plants. From then on, everything you grow will be female.

Is there a lot of stress involved when switching a plant from flower back into veg? And will a young clone show sex within a week? I'm trying to expedite this process as fast as I can (isolating the females).

You almost got it, at first u just flower 1 or 2 clones of each mother plant, in that way u can tell if the clones were cut from male or female plant...keep the remaining clones veging, once the clones that went into flower show sex u will know wich plants are male and wich plants are female...kill the males and the respective clones taken from them..

At this point you are left with just female plants mothers and clones u can now keep the healthiest plant or plants to be mothers and the remaining plants and clones will go into flower as soon as they are ready, in this way (keeping a mother) u will allways have clones ready to be cut and become beautifull lovely smoking buds...

There is no point in taking clones if u plan on flower every plant u have...

you could just sex 1 lower branch. by puting a bag over a lower branch for 12/12. then that branch should show sex. just have to rember to keep it on a 12/12 cycle till it shows

ive done this ^^ and it does work but if you dont remember to pull it off every morning and put it on at night it defeats the purpose
