Is this N deficiency?

Running a DWC setup, plants just touched down a day or so ago and now the leaves look different...

They're on week 2 total (end of week 1 in the system), the roots just touched the water recently, and im running GH trio, at about 300ppm total, 1/2 strength seedling strength (1.3ml/gal m/g/b). Medium hardness tap water ( < 100ppm).

Does this look like nitrogen def, or nute burn starting (see the 4 big lower leaves)?

looks more like the plant is drawing from the leaves to grow roots

but yeah if she keeps getting more yellow I`d add a bit more food 300ppm should be enough but I used to push to 700ppm and max out around 1000/1200ppm for the end of veg, more than some people use but I was using GH 3 part too back then

That does make sense. I started to smell something bad in the rez 2 days ago, so I doubled down on the tea and added extra great white. Today the rez smells *GREAT* and the roots grew at least 2-3 inches. That does totally make sense that it might be drawing nutrition for root development.

I'll let things simmer for a day or so and see how it goes

I see it all the time after transplanting and stuff, people spray or feed with boosters for rooting and then get upset about losing some leaves, roots are way more important, I mean I normally cut off the 1st 1 to 4 nodes even if I don`t need clones so I`m happy to fry that leaf to grow more root

less light intensity can help slow the yellowing but then that could slow the root growth

she looks pretty happy man

Great white is good stuff if you can afford that, wanted to try orca if I run dwc again, miss doing hydro when I`m pissing around wetting coco and chucking the old stuff away, I miss getting "soil" from my tap, lol

I don't think your roots were close enough to the nute solution..
not sure of your setup but my roots never had to reach for nutes.. this would explain the Def.
300 ppm is fine for that size of plant...

Yeah holy shit, definitely makes sense. I basically started my whole root treatment program 3 or 4 days ago- extra humic acid, the tea, lowered drip schedule, increased lighting, daily inoculation of the root ball... im running time-lapse too and noticed a stall on leaf growth the last few days, thought I was f'd. But I'm apparently getting a few inches of root growth a day the last few days, so it allll comes together now.

I guess 9 days from like... just cotyledons, to 10" roots (yes... my pots are 8" above the water line =\) is pretty good. Was just so focused on the leaf growth.

The great white is really killer so far. The mychs i was using before were granules and i had to brew em with the EWC to get something soluble out of em. But apparently brewing mychs is pretty worthless, so these last few days may have been my first real inoculation, and you really cant beat the variety. Now that I have a feel for the smell and effects, ill have to see if i can reliably breed em via tea and cut the costs.

yea, my setup has a pretty big reach... the rez is actually pretty shallow. i get a really good mist from the airstones tho, plus i have overhead drippers on a timer that drip from the top of cups, plus have some tubes that provide waterfalls from 8". I turned the timing way down for this 2nd week to try and boost root growth and get em to reach.

I hoped it would make them bushier, but that was a failure lol got longgg threads instead. I'm happy they reached this fast tho, my last setup had less 'mist' and the plants took forever to reach.

EDIT: i will eventually cover the cups too. just so small now, afraid to install the collars/covers.

Hell yeah man that's pretty badass. Puts your skills to good use, I am sure you could market it also if your prototype does well.

I have a similar problem when starting crops. I try to veg seedlings in a tray for a week before I transfer to the sytem so the taproot hangs into the water.
