Jamaican landrace?

Jamaica has some good genetics but I don't think it's all that easy to obtain them as a tourist. I also think that the 'landrace' down there is about as common as it is anywhere being that not many growers have the patience or skill to grow those 12+ week plants (greed plays a role too).

I've had herb from different parts of the island and it all had a similar cloudy, mellow, stoney buzz, definitely felt hybridized. The quality was a lot better than you'd think given how it looked but it was still nothing compared to properly grown plants.

I found a couple beans in my herb down there and somehow they resurfaced in a pocket of mine when I returned. I figured growing them out wouldn't hurt....

Jamaican bagseed grown indoors:

I bred with a good bagseed male I found who had resin on his leaves:

My own pollen-chuck, some Jam x Jam:

I agree with you on most points, most certainly where the landrace indicas flower in under 12 weeks. I meant to clarify that I was only talking about sativa landraces and I apologize if I was misleading. Landrace strains grown outdoors can be unrestrained and they also gets the UVB light that the indoor plants are lacking which supposedly increases resin production as a defense mechanism, but I, like you, didn't think these landraces could be reasonably grown indoors until I talked to a couple independant breeders (the only 2 I found with real landraces) that told me LSTing them works unexpectedly well and claim it's essential. MOST closet growers probably don't have the patience or the room for a strain like this, and, if they do, they may not want to grow it because of the low yields. I also agree that the demand has been reduced because of the unavailability and simply the fact that most people don't even know what they are, and, if they do, it's probably a hybridized strain that's been ruined and labeled as genuine. There are definitely more factors at play than greed and impatience. I must say that I think unawareness is a bigger factor than the idea that they can't be grown indoors. You might be right since I'm not speaking from experience, but I don't think those guys would lie to me and I will find out for myself soon enough. I'll be sure to post my experiences. I'm going to supercrop some Acapulco Gold, Tex-Mex, and Colombian Gold in a 5x5x8 room. I plan on starting them after this crop.

P.S. I'm not arguing that hybrids arn't the best choice for 99.9% of indoor growers. I'm just arguing that there are so many hybrids already, why would take a strain with painstakingly preserved genetics and cross it with something? I personally don't care about the flowering times, height, or low yields from landraces; I just want that crazy high. Most people arn't like me, and I think most people should choose a hybrid, but I definitely advocate the preservation rather than the hybridization of these gorgeous specimens.

Its great to see that others out there have a similar mindset with regards to quality>speed.
:leaf: I am currently on my third? round of growing a pure sativa, and yea it takes a massive amount of patience and care not to ruin the grow since the plants tend to be super delicate to nutes compared to the hardy strains being sold to people who care about yield and speed. Whenever the grow is finally done, the incredible high is immensely satisfying :hump:and after that first toke, I can only look back and smile about the trials faced during a long seemingly never ending journey of flowering these things. And i'm reminded that sometimes time is such an illusion, but hey, at least it allows us to make some sense of the world.

I have several indoor "landrace?" (at least advertised & sold as "geographical pure strain") grows under 1000w Growlite OGs...My last was Afropips, Malawi...Prior to that I did a CannaBiogen, Jamaica Blue Mountain...I can not remember if it was touted as a landrace. For that matter I am not sure it was really "Jamaican". I am not saying CannaBigen is not reputable. I am saying there is little "truth in labeling" in this industry..No matter...Props to Canna for mind bender dope...I grew in a 10 gal Smartie...Popped 5 ceeds only one fem... Pruned it "orchard peach tree style" to even out flowering canopy at about 5ft...Veged eight weeks in FFOF & Lite Warrior mixed two FFOF to one..Ferts Miracle Grow All purpose, Proteck, Humic and Fulvic added to each feeding...Needed lots of fert. Did not switch to bloom to keep leaves green..Maintained to occupy about 3 x 3 in grow tent...Flower period 16 weeks plus...5oz "outstanding dope" but it is not pretty after it's bagged.Buds are very loose and wispy ..Lotsa work, small but quality return...Won't do landrace indoor anymore...Remaining ceeds to buddy this year growing outdoor in Va. mountains...Hope he has time and sunshine on his side to finish...CannaBiogen Jamaican Blue Mountain is rock your socks psychedelic if time and space are on your side...FWIW

Yeah a super old thread here and imma revive it so hard lol

So went to Jamaica for a wedding. Got some nice landrace sticks, (just big stalks of the plant) I love how it was handed to me, anyways lol

I found one seed.. and kept it in my makeup kit, brought I back home to Canada.

Planted it April, 25 this year, sprouts the 29th.

Here's her now, waaaaaay ahead of my other plants. Very powerful smell, fruit smell almost.

Odd though, the main colas are in the bottom and the popcorn bugs on top.. lmfao anyways;

Best part is, I bred her with my feminized critical Kush :3
