Jd Shorts F5 Blueberry Backcross

Althor, sorry to hear about your experience. I currently am having the exact opposite experience with the f5 Blueberries I am currently growing. I was hoping for and looking for a pheno that presented an anomaly from the rest, or something specifically unique that separated it from the rest of the pheno's. I am however having a bit of difficulty selecting this 'unique' pheno because the stain is in fact so darn stable and most all of them have very similar traits; purple berry, floral skunk, spice. You can see in the pictures that I have submitted many of these likenesses. And if you spent 5 years growing the genetics, there must of been something you liked about them, no?

I have 28 different phenotypic expressions of what the Blueberry is capable of in my flower room right now, and I can definitely verify the stability of this strain. Again, I want to clarify and make certain that we are all aware that Dj's seeds are some of the most counterfeited beans out there. If you are to just go on the internet and buy his gear, 9 times out of ten what you're going to end up with are f2 knock-offs that someone made using my fathers f5's. This would in fact give you that unstable variance and wide selection of pheno's you speak of Althor. So again, please make sure you're directing your complaint to the correct breeder.

Also, the 5 I have selected now are the five main variances with the best attributes.
There is; floral berry, spice berry, berry and a resin producer. The fifth is another spice berry with more resin than the first. Im sure there are anomalies in this f5 selection, but 28 expressions weren't enough for me to find the anomaly I was looking for this time. So the strain is stabilized to at least that degree.

You misread. I didnt say I spent 5 years growing the genetics, I said I grew out some DJ Short strains about 5 years ago. Out of a pack of blueberry I didnt get a single "blueberry" pheno and every one of them was different from the others. At that point I gave up on finding an "old school blueberry". Now if you have access to f5 generation that might be night and day difference from the pack I grew out 5 years ago, but I will have to see it to believe it.

Ah, got ya. Then Im confused at where you picked up f2's from Dj, he doesn't offer f2 Blueberries. Hence my comment about making sure you're directing your complaints properly.

So first off, thanks all for the comments and replies. I wish I could say the undertone of the comments here were a little kinder, but I've seen the industry enough to understand what this is all about.

Peace.
Hi JD.. I'm glad you started this thread. I am VERY interested in what you have going here. Please DO continue to journal here.. These things start off kinda slow but they do pickup as the thread begins to fill with cool stuff.. The thing is, there are thousands of threads started here with grand plans that sort of just fissle, pop, and disappear. Keep posting your work! I assure you people are interested.

As for the negative tone.. yep, get used to it. But remember, there are kind folks around here. Just ignore the dicks..

I hope to see more from you on this topic. I'm sub'd

I grew some of Chimeras Grapefruit x Blueberry in 2010.. God damn, there were some fine plants in that pack. I believe that pack was fathered by DJ's blueberry.. The problem was that the plant put out excessive preflowers, which I believe was a trait of the SPG, not the blueberry. The preflowers were so excessive that the plant was hard to manage as a mother.. I let her go and regretted it shortly after.

Right now I am going through a pack of Mikado seeds.. Hoping to find something like the SPG leaning plants from that pack.. It will be interesting to see just how much contribution the BB played in that Chimera pack as it is absent from the Mikado.. I am sure the BB played a great part in the greatness of the pack.

I left Rollitup for a long time to escape the trolls.. What I learned is that drama is everywhere, you can't avoid it in this biz. You just have to let it blow right past you.
I'm back to RIU now.. I just started a little pollen chucking thread.. Chucking pollen and giving away free seeds.. https://www.rollitup.org/t/hanks-cannabis-seeds.859459/#post-11288516

I do plan to do something of "my own: though as well.. Mikado plays a part in that.. I also have some pure Dalat seeds.. A vietnamese sativa that I am trying to tame and cross to make hybrids of my own..Gypsy gifted these to UB, UB gifted them to me. For now though, I am making seeds on the cheap and giving them away to people interested in the genetics, and people who are short on cash, unable to purchase expensive seeds.

The Blueberry does have recessed auto-flowering traits.
Perhaps it was the blueberry then..

It happened after a looong period of being very rootbound.. When I kept the mothers upcan'd every so often it was not an issue. Sometimes I will "take a break" from a plant.. put it in a little pot and stash it in the corner of the room,, keeping it as small as possible. Those plants did not do well with that sort of treatment.

lol....I know the taking a break from a plant thing. And that's pretty much how I lost my Cocoa Kush mom. I should have caught it earlier and re-veged her outside to stave off the auto-flowering, live and learn, eh?

Azure Haze looks like a good one.. love the SSH. I found a great 9 wk SSH plant in a pack of beanhoarder. I hit her with pollen every time i collect.

...lol. I haven't even checked in here for a bit cause there really didn't seem to be much interest originally. And the only reason I actually caught this was cause I had a push notification sent to my email account.

So first off, thanks all for the comments and replies. I wish I could say the undertone of the comments here were a little kinder, but I've seen the industry enough to understand what this is all about.

Lemme just say this first, my product and my father's product clearly speaks for itself. They are some of the most sought after genetics for a reason. I'd suggest that any of you wasting you time and breath bashing them go spend your time doing something a little more constructive that serves you and your communities a little better. You're wasting my time here and you're wasting your own time. Anyone paying attention already knows what my fathers and soon to be my work is worth.

Second, sucks to hear about seeds not popping. The strange thing for me and everyone else I know who's popped the seeds is that we've all gotten better than 90% success rate, even on seeds as old as 5-8 years. And we all know Dj's seeds don't sit on the shelf that long...so, sorry about your germ rates. I suggest speaking with the shop you got them from and asking how they store and receive their seeds. Also, I want to be clear that we all know Dj's gear is some of the most counterfeited and ripped off gear there is, so please....make certain that you are directing your complaints at the right breeder and not just the breeder everyone has been ripping off for years.

And lastly, the backcross is still in the works, as well as many potential outcrosses. I've selected the f5 pheno's. 4 at least and perhaps 5. Here are a few pics of those. As far as to whether or not I'll be back to share anymore pics or words, that will remain to be seen, as I will assess if my presence here is even wanted first. There are plenty of playgrounds to play on boys. If you don't want me here, I'll gladly go somewhere else.
Peace.
JD, do you recommend some reputable shops that we can trust to handle your stock? I for one would love to try some of your seeds... Anything I can do to help.

Im sorry, but Im not in a position to recommend any shops or clubs. Im not here to solicit or direct the sales of anything, Im here to share what I love doing with others who also love doing it.

As far as a Blueberry strain that will offer those blue as opposed to the violet hues that the Blueberry usually shows, I'd recommend Azure Haze. I've see the Azure Haze produce those sparkly blue hues. If it's violet you're looking for, almost anything blueberry displays the violet.

I really think its funny when people complain about seed prices. LEARN HOW TO GROW guys. I've been growing for 10 years, and can honestly say the few times beans havn't popped it was probably at least 50% my fault. Typically I have 90%+ germination on every batch of beans I've cracked over the years. There is always a chance a bean won't pop, which is why I try to buy multi-packs of seeds when I do buy them.

$10 a seed is nothing for the ability to get on the internet pick out the genetics you want and have that seed sent wherever you choose. That seed then has the ability to be grown to produce a value with limitless potential.

Lets try an example..... You payed $100 for a 10 pack.
You suck at growing so only 4 germinate.
Of those 4 you find a decent female plant so you clone it.
Hopefully by this point you've learned how to grow so you can stop blaming others for failures.
Now you have spent $100 and have a nice plant that you will be able to keep forever if you learn how to grow.
If you sell your crop then you will be recouped the 100 after the first harvest. If you just smoke your crop then your whole harvest cost you $100 plus other supplies, not to damn bad unless you still suck at growing and didn't harvest $100 worth of herb.

FYI this post isn't directed at any person in particular so please don't bother to get upset.

Has it occurred to you that the actual price that's paid for the seeds isn't the only "cost" that you incur when you buy a pack of seeds? Nobody likes to waste money on horse shit genetics, but what's even more costly is the time it takes to grow those seeds out, and the space that they occupy in my garden.

Some people have limited funds, and most people have limited space to grow. If I devote 10 containers in my flowering room to a strain, and 4 months of my time, you're damn right I'm gonna be salty if I end up with a bunch of schwag.

I never said that I don't expect the seeds I buy to grow like they are supposed to. I've also never ran a pack of seeds and not found at least one pretty good plant in the whole pack. My point in that post was that the price of the seed is minor. The fact that you can go on the internet and order an illegal item to your house in the first place is amazing. So if you have limited funds you only order one strain, not several. If you have limited grow space, then don't devote large amounts of it to unknown genetics. I would suggest growing from clone.
