Jesus was a stoner.

One of my profile pics for a Facebook account I manage is Jesus smoking a bong. (Legit. It's going to be my next sleeve.)

People always hurl abuse at me however, saying that the image is disrespectful.

Having a super religious background, and at one time being a very devout Christian, I understand the sentiments, but I often wonder if people put any serious thought into the matter other than quoting indoctrinated sentiments derived from the fathers of the prohibition, Nixon, Anslinger and Co.

Jesus turned water into wine for the sole purpose of keeping a party cranking.

He wanted people to get drunk and have a good time right?

Jesus himself was a wine drinker.

Why wouldn't he turn some shrubbery into sativa? (Bringing a whole new meaning to the burning bush.)

It is widely theorized that cannabis oil was used by Jesus and his disciples for anointing, so why is it offensive to see an image of Jesus smoking pot?

Does the manner in which cannabis is used merit more offense than some more socially acceptable ways?

Personally, I think Jesus would be a cool motherfucker to smoke pot with.

I have given it some thought... Seems weird that there is so little to read up on about it.
I'm thinking maybe our minds can be enhanced with cannabis in afterlife so I see no reason to not see everyone there using cannabis...

Let's look at the facts.

Weed makes you wise.

Weed turns many people into peace promoting, philanthropical hippies.

Weed makes you grow your hair long.

Jesus was all of the above. ;-P

Nah,seriouisly though, the spiritual element that is found in many drugs, not just weed, is overlooked by naysayers and hardline prohibitionists worldwide in an ignorant conspiracy.

Maybe Jesus did smoke pot here and there. Maybe he didn't. Maybe he used it as an anointing oil, maybe not.

From the perspective of a religious type I'd be curious to know how smoking pot would affect his deity status, if at all... the problem, when I counter most attacks on my Bong Smoking Jesus DP, most people hightail it when I ask them this question.

Ive always wondered what people would think if they changed the blonde, blue eyed white Jesus into what he was on all the pictures..he would of been a short (people were shorter then) brown haired, brown eyed and brown skin man.

I saw a protest in LA, "Jesus was black", carried out by African American protesters vehemently stressing their point.

I stated that the likliehood of Jesus being black was better than being white, but he was most probably "brown" as he was born in Israel.

We did not get along.

WWJD?

Puff puff pass that shit all day long.

Next time someone hassles you reply with this;

Would you rather I put up this image of an ancient Greek vase from the 4th century BCE? It shows women performing an annual passion (patheos) play for the God of wine Dionysus. They are in ritual "amophagia" by drinking the blood (wine), and flesh (pulp) of the God represented on a tropaion (trophy). The festival starts by priests putting casks of water in the God's temple which turns into wine the next day. Would you rather I put up another image of the Greek Goddess Nike giving a blessing of victory on a Tropaion from the same era?

Then tell them they should watch this lecture about Jesus by an ancient historian:

Then give them this link by a New Testament scholar:

New Testament Narrative as Old Testament Midrash

Or you can just reply with three sets of Biblical passages; Mark 4:35-41, Jonah 1:4-17, Psalm 107:23-29

You can also ask them if they heard the good news of Inanna. She's the ancient Sumerian Goddess Queen of Heaven that was crucified, and resurrected on the third day in glory.

long hair, no showers, rag clothes, a dozen buddies tagging along, fishing tilapia all day, wearing vials of kanah'bosem oil on their necks,
friendly with the town hooker, really into clean feet, loved to help others, hated on the establishment, could have made water to milk, but no, spoke in riddles....yep, he's a stoner all right.
