Jury Duty

I got my 2nd summons for jury duty today. I skipped the 1st one last month...blew it off. Got the 2nd one with a threat of a fine.

So I guess I'll go....

I really dont think "the people" want me to sit on anyone's jury.

Too bad I dont have a legit reason to skip.

Wish I had an invalid relative I could use an excuse.

I'll go in full Bob Marley regalia....That should get me sent home.

I thought about that....But Im sure they could look at me...and see "The Stoner" in my eyes.

I'd still get sent home....I really do look like a toker.

i hate jury duty. the last time i had to go, i sat in the waiting rooms with all the other lucky people for 7 hours. not one case required a jury that day. it sucked.

Piss your pants next time. They'll make you leave.
the problem is they don't print out the check until the end of the day. If you don't get the check you also don't get the attached sheet that says you completed your jury summon on this date. If you are summoned with in 1 year of that time you have nothing to prove that you served it already within the last year.

Ah. OK I'm ignorant to the jury process, luckily I've never been summoned.

I did jury duty a couple of years ago and had a blast. I got picked to set on a case where a cop was stealing dealers weed and we sent him to prison. it was cool, free (good) food, got paid and a bad cop went to prison.:peace:

tell them you're unable to overlook you racial and sexist bias when it comes to judging someone's innocence. this girl i used to know's mom pretended to be racist when they were screening the jurors and she never had to serve

did you get excused?
You know I did....

Quick Story....

So from the moment they get us all herded like cattle....The Bailiff starts talking to us making jokes :?

He moves us through the "dungeons" and says...."When we get upstairs I'll tell you HOW NOT not get chosen".

The herd laughs :-?

He finally says...."If you're quiet...more than likely you'll be chosen. If you get involved and answer questions....One side probably will not like something you say and go with someone else".

Anyway....The lawyers have us in the courtroom asking us questions.....

People were just raising their hands and trying to jump in there. Of course the other half of us didnt open our mouths unless called upon.

Long story short.....EVERYONE that spoke up was chosen.

No one likes jury duty, but most people have to do it at least once in their lives. There are, however, a few valid excuses to get out of jury duty, and although they can vary from state to state, most of them are pretty homogeneous. Following are some of the valid excuses to get out of jury duty; just be sure to check the laws in your state to make sure they apply.

Valid Excuses to Get Out of Jury Duty: School

If you attend high school, college or graduate school, you can almost always get out of jury duty. Some states will even exempt you if you take online courses because participating in jury duty will keep you from studying. Most states require you to submit proof of enrollment in school, such as a copy of your student I.D. card or a copy of your most recent tuition bill. If you are in high school (and this happens for students who turn eighteen early), you can have the registrar's office sign a document saying that you are enrolled.

Valid Excuses to Get Out of Jury Duty: Chronic Illness

The court understands that people who are chronically ill cannot withstand the pressures of jury duty. It compromises their ability to take their medication and can cause undue stress. If you have a chronic illness -- such as diabetes or HIV -- have your doctor write an explanation of your illness and submit it to the courts by fax or through the mail. Some states will require you to appear on the date of your summons, while others will not.

Valid Excuses to Get Out of Jury Duty: Occupation

Certain professionals are automatically allowed to excuse themselves from jury duty. Attorneys, doctors, dentists and emergency personnel are usually not required to sit for jury duty, though they may be required to show up on the date of their summons. Remember, however, that simply having to report to work for your job as an administrative assistant won't cut it. Businesses are required to give employees time off for jury duty without jeopardizing their employment.
