Kushy Kush fast rooting

This Kushy Kush from Canuck Seeds is looking good so far. Took this cutting from the mother in early flower and I could see roots above the perlite after only 4 days. This pic is at 6 days. The mother also had roots growing out from the bottom of the stalk for the first 2". It's a root machine. Unfortunately, there is no info on the strain's pedigree. The description from the company is very desirable sounding, but no grow reports are out yet. I had 2 seeds sprout and one turned out scrawny and weak looking but this one was a real trooper. Can't report on the final outcome for a while yet though. BTW, those plastic shot glasses are just right for starting clones. I just made a little hole in the middle of the bottom of each one. I used a 23w warm white CFL over each container of 6 clones.

WOW in just 4 days. ?? thats gotta be a world record. root time. and you did it just like that ? perlite, a hole ?? . very interesting.stats..

Yeah it certainly surprised me. I used rooting gel, but that's pretty standard anyway. I have another vigorous rooting strain, Sugar Candy, but even that was left in the dirt by the Kushy Kush. If it has as high a yield and potency as claimed in the description then it may just be my best strain. On the other hand, if it's average then the rooting won't save it.

Here's what the cloner looks like. The bottom container has hand holes in the ends so I covered them with packing tape. The clear one fits perfectly into the white one, with small spaces at the corners for ventilation. I used deionized water only until roots showed, with a shallow layer of water on the bottom of the container for humidity.

thats my biggest problem . is getting . a good system for my cuttings,. im 2 weeks and still no roots,. hella pissed.. and im doing everything the book tells you to do. grr

I just edited my last post with more info about the cloner. It's also good to have a little bottom heat. My clone section is above my veg section, so it's a little warmer than otherwise. They have heating pads in most grow shops. My DIY cloner was also very cheap, because I get stuff like that from dollar stores. Just happened to get lucky that two of the types fit together so well. Perlite seems to be best for cuttings, because of the high air content. I also use it as the growing medium. I like it because it won't compact, build up nutes or alter pH but is reusable after pulling out most of the roots. That saves a lot on medium, not having to buy new every batch.

mine is similar . i took 2 plastic totes and duct tape it so it would fold into a clam .

Yup, same idea. A white container on the bottom might help by reflecting light up and from the sides. I would use perlite instead of soil for the rooting. If you rooted in the soil that may be the problem. They need a lot of aeration in the medium for good rooting. Also the rooting ability is also strain dependent. Inbred strains like Skunk or NL don't root near as well as recent crosses. I also always use gel rooting hormone, not powder, because powder is too drying. I don't water them from the top until the day after I put them in, so that the hormone won't get washed off right away. I put water through them each day after that.

ive done rapid rooters , the expandable jiffy pellets . i used pelite i used net cups . ive used everything other than rockwool . its just easier to grab clones when i go over the hill into cali . 15 for teenagers. but i like to take 2 clippings from plants i put into flower to save some cash and keep trying the cloning thing . lol

Actually safer to use seeds than buying clones though, to avoid diseases and pests. But as I said, the rooting ability is largely strain dependent. I've had plenty of strains that took about 2 weeks to root. That's why it's so lucky to find one that roots like that Kushy Kush. If a strain doesn't root vigorously it usually never performs very well overall either. All the plants with vigorous rooting were also huge yielders.

ok im trying your method . got the shot cups . perlite, dome. soft white and bright white cfl. am i missing some thing? thanks

Deionized water is good, or distilled. Fluoridated tap water is really bad for cuttings. I had the CFLs mounted horizontally about 10" above the tops with square aluminum pie plate reflectors over them btw. I wet the perlite after loading the shot glasses up and make stem holes with a robertson screwdriver. Perlite is too stiff to just stick them right in by pushing. Also remember not to use powder type rooting hormone, though I doubt if you were going to anyway.

clonex, i have the light at a slight angle cuz i use a Y with my cfls got a white bottom its reflecting via i put mylar all around this grow box i made for my dwc/ now a veg box has 4 cfls but using just one 32 watt. i distilled water . will not be mad if nothing happens . gotta learn . right?

Never heard of perlite with stuff added. Does it look like normal perlite, white granules? Anyway, should still work. The one that's droopy needs to be cut again slightly up from the end. Sometimes a cut doesn't take up water right so you have to make another cut.

Wondering how your kush kush ended up. I am germinating a freebie right now, it's going to be the fourth plant in a 4 plant scrog. Did you have any sex issues. 2 super silver haze seeds I ran from them threw pollen a few weeks into flowering , and I had to take them out, big hassle to remove a whole plant from a net. Don't want to risk it I guess. But heard some good things, particularity finishing time, so I want to give her a go.

update ph'ed water 5.2 rock wool /clone gel / an light clone nute. leave under dome and not open it for 1 week ... works 100% . i take newer growth off plant... thanks for all the help.
