Larry's Fall/Winter seed tests

Hi Sandhill, I did not know you could plant in the fall and winter.... the falls here wont reach 27f at all, but days get shorter....
I'd never done it before. This was mainly a test to see how last season's seeds sprouted. And bud I get is a bonus.

I don't have a lot of cold where I'm at. But if you have a greenhouse that is above freezing, you can do it just about anywhere. The best thing is no one is looking for it in winter. I have a more traditional Spring Crop going on now. I had to cover everything up for two nights. Got down to 29F Thursday morning.

The B&S X CP1 buds are nice and smelly. Lots of purple. Not sure if it's cold or genetics. I'm drying it slow, so no smoke test yet.

I'M just getting ready to pull my first seed testers out of the closet,it seems like forever compared to all you have harvested.I ran 4 plants 3 look promising for a late outdoor run.

I started popping seeds as soon as I got last year's bud dried enough to smoke. Some of them flowered really early, well before I would have thought them sexually mature. I harvested two pretty good ones from those early plantings, The Finger and Bug Topped. I've got what is left of the two cold damaged B&S X CP1's from the seed testers. The 10 females in the Spring Crop {11 if you count the Tray Jumper} are going to be touch and go with the days getting too long.

Off season is a crap shoot. Last year i ended up with some light and airy buds that had a lot of resin and made nice bubble hash.
The two good plants at the STL look like 2-3 ounces per. Most of the rest will be one or less. For it to be worth while I will have to do more, or figure out how to get more for less work.

It seems regular season is the most reliable and six plants should keep you going until the next season. They have to sort it out for you so you can grow a few in reach of a garden hose. It's warming up here so i'm going to pop my seeds next week.

I only smoke about 6 ounces a year. I grew enough in last year's full seasons to last me, I just like having a few going.

And I am going to grow some with running water this year. In last year's FP patch. I have to lay some pipe and put in a spigot. Not sure when I'm going to start them. They will get huge with water.

Well i was under the impression that if the Temps drop below 40 f it would stunt the grow.... i could simply use an old aquarium cover it up and plant afghani auto flowers in them during fall, afghani purple is quite small. I could keep the temps high but not sure what will happen when the light hours reduces each day towards winter. Not sure if it will yield.....

Cold may stunt them. Especially if they are real young. I lost 12 plants to cold, but it was 25F.

Most folks grow auto in the middle of summer. That way you get the most light, so more growth. I'm growing photos in the winter so they will flower and be done by the time the days get longer. I'm about as far north as you can get away with it without a greenhouse. Next year I may rig up some sort of bush greenhouse.

I cut all but the one seeded limb on the B&S X CP1's last week. I had pictures, but I think they may be deleted by now. Anyway, at about 0300 this morning, I got through with my half ass trim on the drying bud from the Spring crop, so I hiked over and cut the last limb. The seeds are (Powernap X Sinmint Cookies) X (B&S X CP1)

These two plants were waist high and just starting to flower in January. They got killed back to knee high by two nights of 25F with heavy frost. One limb on the two plants looked half way decent, so I seeded it. I guess, since it is in the tray, the Fall/Winter seed test is over. Or it will be once I get her dried and shell out the seeds.
