Led light comparable to 1000 watt hps??

Hey everyone im running a 1000 watt hps and would like to switch over to a led system soon. My friend has been using a 90 watt ufo and its supposedly equivalent to a 400 watt hps. Now I've been doing a bunch of research on legit companies and not such crazy pricing and came across the MAGNUM LEDS which I like a lot.

They say their Magnum Plus2 directly replaces a 1000 watt hid. Doesnt say exactly how many watts just has 330watt power draw.

So my question is what led wattage would be the exact equivalent to a 1000 watt hps?????

(P.S. if your not gonna answer the question please dont answer at all. so tired of irrelevant answers!!!)

for led it is best to get multiple smaller pannels like 240w or so and cover the entire canopy spaceing about 6inch apart depending on what wattage you get, i dont think there is 1 pannel that will replace 1 1000w hps, as the foot print of max penetration is far larger on an hps but with multiple pannels you will blow the hps away

I hate places that spit higher par % ect without the proof... it's not hard to post PAR readings. If they would just do that the proof would be in the pudding and any place that doesn't obviously isn't all that confident in the product they boast.

LED par reduces dramatically with distance and doesn't spread very well so yea, you would be much better off with a hand full of units. I keep my Blackstar 240's ~8" which works for about 2 plant's per unit.

Here was an old comparison I did between two LED units. I don't know anyone local who grows so I could not compare to a HPS. I'm sure there's much better units than blackstar though. but it works. If you wan't to click sig pic you can see my grows. I think LED's don't pack as much in yield but perform better in potency and quality. But maybe that's just the LED community justifying it to ourselves.

I am growing with LEDs and quite happily but don't get sucked in by the hype. Not even top brand (Cree, Philips) top bin LEDs can match a 1000 watt HID with 305 watts. My guess would be something in the range of twice that in wattage would be about equal....if you are using at least excellent quality. As others have noted, multiple sources are much better than one. You have to get out of the HID point of light mindset. LED is more like T5 than HID in that it really only works well on what it directly covers/there isn't a lot of spread.

I'm using Kessil H350 magentas at more than 80 watts each. That would be real watts. Please note that many/most companies are giving you a theoretical rating for the LED which their driver, heat sink, etc are not even capable of performing. You want to know actual wattage draw. I've got a spectral spinner (circular light mover) so that there is better coverage of the light. I'm using fluorescent side lighting now but have parts on the way to me to build some hefty LED side lights...Cree warm and cool white. I'm also playing with the idea of building a few small fixtures to hang on the spinner to tailor the light to different times of the grow. For example, one fixture of royal blue and the second fixture (must balance the spinner) at the same time could be neutral white to fill in spectrum from the H350s which are just red and blue for veg and then mid veg maybe go to two neutral white fixtures and then late flower pull a neutral white and replace with a 660nm fixture.

I'm at the 4th week of flower right now with some Purple Urkle, and the flowers are just thick with trichs and developing well...the main colas almost look like they are getting hash tips. There's a few weeks to go but this grow looks awesome so far.

Growershouse.com has several different brands of quality LEDS (including Kessil) and they have a sale so take a look and maybe talk with them too.

Wattage is misleading, it's all about par light output measured in PPFD/micro moles. If the par output is equivalent for two lights, it will always obey the inverse square law. LED's that cover a 4x4 area are just around the corner. Apache tech at120 are the best as of now IMO with 950 par micro moles @12", but they are coming out with one that is bigger and better and most likey cheaper too...directly comparable to 1000w. It is still in development so this is word through the grapevine but should be about 400 watts and twice as powerful about 1500+ par @12" as the AT120 plus a bigger 4x4 footprint. And it is not just more of the same in a bigger housing. Drivers, chips, led's are all new and improved. 2 AT120 are good now but one unit will be awesome. Like most said already, the ones that have the par to compete you still need more than one. Get a few apache techs at120's...buy a couple and usually get a better deal anyways. AT120's are by far the most par output per watt and truly high output too.

I got ~.75gpw from my Area-51 panel. Total wattage, 439W - ~329g dry...

329g would be a respectable crop from a 1000W HPS...

It is all about PAR... and there is always a new model in development.

This sums up the problem, there's always a better, cheaper one around the corner, and the lights last for years. It's a lot like waiting for HDTV's to drop in price, it took a while, but eventually worth the wait for those of us on a tight budget. I can't wait to get an LED, maybe 2013 is the year.... I like the looks of the California Light Works but pricey. Their 800w supposedly matches the par of a 1000w HPS, but it will run you over $1500.

It's hard to honestly say, "This LED panel replaces a 1kW HID", because of all the differences between light sources. That being said, it seems like you want to run 55-70% the same amount of LED's.(550-700w power draw LED vs 1000w power draw HID) That's not all "set in stone" information, and needs to be tailored to your needs, cycle of the plants, etc.
I've been really curious to see what the Stealth Grow 1250LED can do, but for the price, I don't see it being a high seller. That may be "overkill", but I feel like the intensity/coverage/penetration still needs some power behind it to match a 1kW HID. I'd listen more to the other users on forums, than I would marketing hype from a company. It's also more important to look at power draw than just multiplying the power of the LED's by the quantity.

Since when is .32 gram/watt good? I average closer to .8 with a 1000w hps. You got .74 g/w thought leds were more Efficient? I grow in soil 7 gallon pots.

I have got over 1000 g with a single and a double ended hps. But not every time I like to fuck around to much ( use bag seeds from Mexico and breed them with my personal strain to add some crazy pheno types in their). If I was using fem seeds from the Dispensary .8 g/W would be bad.
