LED lights

Hey does anyone have or know how good that UFO LED works. The ad says it supposedly as good as a 400 watt HPS. I think the grow area is 4x4 and it puts out 80 watts but all in the blue and red spectrums. It sells for 599.95 and I wanted to know if its really worth getting

I'm curious myself as LED's seem to be the new wave. Long life 80,000 hours and low cost. The last couple of HT mags says these are awesome and others say hps and mh are the only way to go. I understand it is new technology but want real word opinions. There are a few posts on the site where LED's were used and the results seemed very decent.

its 9x9 for the ufo led... if thats what your talking about. led's are still under work, but the ufo is the best. i would wait for a while, maybe they will be better, and cheaper once a bunch more people start making them.

I watched a link today on you tube that compared the UFO to HPS in time lapse photos....the UFO out performed HPS in veg...However when switched to bud 12/12....The HPS quickly pulled away from the UFO grow.....I would go as far as to say the UFO grow looked Looked sick/Ill compared to the HPS grow.....The end result (amount of bud) was shown in separate containers ant HPS produced more than twice the bud

Thats a lot of $$$ for lights...I wouldnt pay that much. I think the price will come down.
Gotta wait.

Hey I just found this awesome grow journal experiment. They did two rooms one hps and one led not nutes just water. The results were interesting. The LED seemed to keep pace with the HPS for the duration of the grow. However day 60 came and the yields were in favor of HPS 23 grams vs 13 grams for led. The link is below as there are some really good pics. I think for myself I will go with the standard 600hps setup for the supercloset but may add a ufo for the lower parts of the plants. I plan to start my grow in the next few weeks and hope to keep a decent journal.

yeah, its true that the LED can produce a good amount of light for using only 80 watts. and you save a lot of money in electricity. but not worth $600.

The main reason LED's suck, they cost sooo much for the company to make. thats why no one is fucking with them right now. they are a waste.

hey johnnyB can you shoot LINK TO THAT UTUBE video you saw im curious and im gonna check out that grow journal too. Im thinking of buying those individual bulbs that cost 50 bucks just to see how they do. maybe two of them. If anyone wants to add to this post I'd like to keep up a running conversation to see how these LED's pan out eventually.

So I read the link that coastsidegarden put up on the 70 watt led VS the 70 watt HPS and it was very informative. I suggest you all read it if your interested in LED grow. He used LED panels (4) 17 watt panels. The result he got was .25 grams per watt with the LED and .50 gram per watt with the HPS. However he had pollen problem and the results included seed weight. But it looks as if the HPS is still better. Im beginning to think that the LED UFO is way too expensive for those results. I am interested in incorporating a few cheaper LED light panels or bulbs though as an add on to my HPS. They would be perfect to put in as side lighting to get the bottom of the plant and middles, because there low heat and you can place them close. right now I am using CFl for side light.

Im considering starting a thread using CFL+HPS, VS LED+HPS I will post results

LED v HPS Comparison

They do suck. That 1st one....which is the one I originally saw left me thinking "maybe in 10 years". Besides...that LED could only handle one plant. A 400W can handle a bunch more.

So even the yield that they showed wasnt even right. The HPS should have been X's 2 at least. w/more plants.

Maybe for moms and clones....I wouldnt do anything more.
And the LED plant had to flower an extra 2 weeks to finish to produce only 36g vs. 91g. The HPS plant was taken at 56 days. The LED at day 70.

that one was interesting also. 91 grams VS 36 grams. I could give a crap about the savings on electric i want the 91 grams. But it is safe to say that the LED per watt produces more than the HPS. The problem therein lies in the fact that you would need 211 watts of LED lights to produce the same results as a 400 watt HPS does and the price of 200 watts of LED's is $750 for the individual bulbs You would need 15 of them (yea right) Panels would be the same price 750 (you need 12 of them at 1 sq ft a piece YEA RIGHT) or 3 UFO's (240 watts at $1800.00 (.43 grams per watt according to the grow on Utube would be 103 grams) is the UFO worth it in the long run. Your saving 160 watts of electric but paying about $1500 more for the lights.

I guess if you wanted to be on the safe side with heat signature you may want to think about it but for those who are interested in cost ID have to say Screw the LED's for now anyway. I do think there needs to be some more testing before I decide which is better ultimately.
