Light Cycles

Have been wondering about this for awhile but have never taken the time to experiment so im gonna try to explain my thoughts the best i can and i would like everyones thoughts and opinions. Marijuana needs to be given a set amount of light to keep it in vegetative state. Now when moving into the flowering stage growers flip their lights to a 12/12 light cycle. Now heres my question as we all know our daily cycle is 24 hours. Well i want to change that. So is flowering triggered by only receiving 12 hours of light per day or 12 hours of dark in a day? Now lets say the plant is triggered by receiving 12 hours of light in a day what i could do is change the daily cycle to 18 hours with 12 on and 6 off. So now by me doing this would it stay in the flowering stage? And if it did would it not result in a higher yield due to extra light over a given period of time but in no more than 12 hour increments? Just a bit of deep thinking let me know what your thoughts are

IMHO, flowering is triggered by less light today than there was yesterday. From Dec. 23_I think_the days start getting longer by 3 minutes per day, until the summer solstice_don't ask me when_at which point in time the sun starts to set 3 minutes sooner. As I understand it, it is at this time that outdoor weed gets the trigger to stop screwing around and put out some buds.

I have often thought about messing with the cycle but never did it.

so it could be the the curve in daily light that triggers it rather than 12-12? in that case if i lower my current 24/0 cycle to 23-1 and then four days or so later to 22/2 at what point would it begin to bud if at all

well if it needs 12 hours of uniterupted darkness then could you extend your schedule to 30 hours and do 18 on and 12 off??????

what fdd said......this has been tested a lot....there is a threshold of darkness that is required for the plant to complete its growth cycle. It had been suggested to me to try 12/6 and reduce total time by 1/4.....but this violates the darkness principle. I have also heard of the 36 hr day, 24/12.....I have settled on 14/10 as this is slightly pushing the limit (I had heard 11 hours darkness is a limit.....but also smaller increments of 15 min and 30 min leaading to 10:30 or 10:45....). Its prolly all been done before....but I wanted to try it for myself - I did that after two weeks of 12/12......my thought being that the plants would not revert after that? I guess I'll find out eh?
