18/6 for flower
I have tried 20/4 and 24/0
Plants need rest
I've tried all 3 for veg with same strain not only do plants grow just as fast at 18:6 you save some power
12/12 for flower

My most productive schedule is 24/7 in veg
and 12/12 in flower.
the pennies saved with said variations do not pay back with good sleep and expectations that are met.
like tripping over dollars to pick up pennies.

here my take .. trying to keep it natural ...
18/6- veg
14/10 -preflower
12/12- flower
11/13 -ripen
10/14 -finish
this mite be an overkill , see how it goes ...
let me know how many timers and hermies you go through in the next year lol

Plant DNA is coded with the grow cycle of their origin.

Where you grow them also has an effect, as does whether the strain is sat, sat dom, indica, indica dom

Sats are mostly 12/12, but during flower even dropping by 15 minutes can help a lot

this may be a reason some trichomes are not ambering for some using the standard 12/12 cycle

never had one hermie out .. only use one timer and that's with sunrise and sunset feature , and of course some UVB ... never seen where the sun went from 18/6 to 12/12 over night ... then in your case when grown outside all should "hermies"

I was leaning towards timer failure not normal light changes outdoors, those are the best. I like your ideals of gradual change, I just have never seen any benefit from doing it. I did see a pita factor dicking with timers this way , ones not fussed with might last years but the ones fussed with always failed sooner. I used a controller once that was gifted to me for a trial, it turned lights on slowly and off slowly again during the schedule for a 50 percent power draw savings. plants were smaller, yielded less too. makes sense for the less available light.

i agree, not everywhere is the same and some may require a change in standard lighting schedules. it may bring out better traits as well

Have you tried going longer than you expect is reasonable to bring the traits out? I can't adjust environment or light changes with the different stage plants in the same room so i have just waited. I am at 12 weeks 6 days with a moderately still healthy heavy leaning sativa that is about 70 % cloudy and now showing some healthy trichs with colors and some degradation.

It is only now going into the harvest window. I expect some more time but it will be worth it in my experience. I will chop at 90% honestly. Leave a little zing!

I've found different
I'm 24 for me plants stop growing about a month into veg
This happened to me
I went to 18/6 and they blew up over night

strange they would stop growing.
I keep garden sheers for a weekly topping of all unless
vegging trees for outdoor spring time planting. more/longer vegging light has
never been a limiting factor in my experience, maybe something else is going on?

ive always been pressed for time in my grow areas so i have not, only up until i see about 25 percent amber

I wonder if certain strains with genetics traced back to their originating areas can be grown with lights that have a PAR that matches the FPAR and certain light schedules of their native homeland? Anyone tried this? Just pondering as a high noob on my first grow....

Usually 12/12 flower 24/0 veg. Recently I left my veg door open and flower got 10 extra hours of residual light. I let it sleep for 12 hours but 3AM-3PM is not ideal for me to do work in thefe. Im slowly working it to a more desirable time by adding an extra hour to flower timers each day until im at 8AM-8PM. This is a 13hr on/12hr off schedule. By friday ill be back to 12/12.

In doing this I was wondering how 13 on 11 off would work for flower. Get an extra hour of light to pack buds. So the timing on this thread was pretty convenient

thats what i was wondering bc they would bud under that schedule id think, maybe even 14 on, maybe if they dont bud but preflower maybe youll get better buds by doing that first for a week or two then flipping to 13 or 12
