Right it's like this, I bought myself a 400W High Pressure Sodium setup the other day for quite a bit of cash, mainly because this is what I was told to do by you guys, but i think it's eating up my electricity like a motherfucker and I dont really want to be giving the parents anymore money than I already do for electricity for christs sake :P

So im wondering about cheap lights, this is both on electricity and price to buy, if anyone has any suggestions then please get back to me

well i don't knew this bank, only nirvana NL http://nirvana-shop.com/, but maybe they got themselves a uk outlet;)

B52 is not the easiest strain but manageable, you should go with northern Lights#1, Big bud, or good old Skunk#1 for growin as someone never done it before. those strains are far easier then B52, which is a damn good strain still:) love it.
if you got light potting soil handy, go with it, personally i'm a rockwool fan but since soil is a bit easier, if it is a good soil, you should use this.
Watch out that this soil has no additives, like fertilizers to it! just plain light soil, maybe mixed with perlight or small-sized expanded clay, which would help with the drainage a lot. pots should have also proper drainage to them.

always start small first, in my outdoor years i started with jiffy pallets, never start in something bigger than a 1/2 gallon one, i would even say in a 1/3 gallon bucket.

a 400W hps is an exalent chocie to bud/flower with. to gain the same amound of light you would need about 1.5-2 times the real wattage in floros or cfl's. you could go with a smaller hps in your grow, but the are less avective to compared to a 400W one. so i would stick with it for the 8 weeks you going to need it for 12h per day, which would be about 672h which could be even shorten by 2h less in the last 2 weeks, about 270KWh, which would about 41 bucks at 15 cents per KWh. so how much weed do you get for 40 bucks, 10 grams maybe?;) go with your 400W HPS and get a pound of bud:)

Here is a money savings tip for you! Use your HPS as someone else stated they cost around 40.00 a month to run, Change out all of you incandecents in your home with cfl's, lower your water heater a few degrees, lower your thermostat on your furnace a few degrees and vent the heat from your light inside your house to lower your heating costs while running your 400w hps. You will find that just by changing out incandecents for cfls your bill will go down. I know when I purchased my 400w hps I used all of my cfls for my lamps in my home and my bill went down 10.00 a month. Of course my ol'ladie leaves all the friggen lights on all the time. With just a few simple money saving changes you can, run your light and still have a bill comparable to before you started using a HID system!

One dumb question..... Which way should you orientate the lights in relation to the garden. I can't seem to find a guide on the best possible position. Cheers

That light will cost you 28 bucks a month to run at 24/7 lighting for 30 days straight @ 10 cents / kilowatt hour

EDIT: thats like pluging in a big ass stereo into your house... or a huge freaking desktop.... or a big screen tv

Where in the hell am I?

Hope ya dont mind my 2cents. If ya do, then skip it! I suggest the power conserving tips that you heard above, as well as this one: unplug everything that you dont need to be unplugged wen ya aren't usin it! In my house everything is unplugged except fer my DVR, Fridge, and outlets I can not get to. The first month I started this is also the 2nd time I tried indoor gardening! I started my grow on the 1st day of the billing cycle, half way through I started unplugging. The next month I had SAVED $80 on my bill! Just a tip. Also, if ya are curious about usin CFL's fer yer veg, and HPS fer yer flower, ya can check out my CFL grow. This grow is strictly CFL, but on my next I will be doing both!
Best of luck to ya, and let us know if there's n-e thing else we can do to help!bongsmilie
