How far away from the canopy should a 250w hps be? The area is 2'wx3'dx6'h.

a simple test i do is put my hand right above the tops of my plants. If it's too hot for my hand, it's way too hot for the plant. having a fan blow the hot air from the light away from the plant can help you maximize efficiency by letting the light hang a lot closer to your plants, thus more lumens per square foot.
