Little Owls first grow (picture heavy)

Here I am in Maine, and weed became legal only a few months ago. I figured growing would do a couple things for me: firstly, be fun, and secondly maybe make a little pocket change. Though it's not technically legal to sell marijuana yet. I figured by the time I grow some decent plants up, harvest, and cure, I'll be ready for Feb 28th 2018, the day weed sales become legal. I swear I will save every cent I have to buy a future permit if that's what it takes!! (if they do require permits, which no one knows yet, because Maine is kind of a retarded state)

Anyhow!

First problem I had was that I'd never actually known how people get plants, other from bag seed. But I didn't want some mystery crap seed!! If I was gonna grow this, and sell it, I want something I know will be pretty good. Not only that, but I'm an amateur, I don't want to worry about getting a male plant, or, like my current luck with chickens, hatching 90% "roosters".

So! The search for seeds led me to think I wanted feminized seeds, maybe autoflowering because I wanted to put them outside after awhile. HOWEVER. It turns out that not a SINGLE seller takes CREDIT CARDS!!!!!

(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻ !!

Seriously. . . .

So I talked to my coworker Kyle. His dad is a medical grower. Medical weeds' been legal since I have no idea, just because it was legal already by the time I moved to Maine like 4 years ago. So I asked Kyle how the hell did all the medical growers GET their damned plants to begin with!? I can't find seeds and buying clones is technically illegal even though growing them is not. So, like, wtf, dude?

Kyle said apparently, the dispensaries selling the medical weed would give you seeds. Wut.

Yeah he was totally wrong.

Don't go into a dispensary and ask if they have seeds. They will treat you like you are the FBI.

So I figured, wait. I know this is a long shot, but what about Craigstlist?? Yeah go figure. You can find people brazenly "selling" clones on craigslist. *shrug* (for "donation" )

Anyhow, this clone search turned up something amazing. Apparently Maine has a whole damned seed bank. And it's only 45 minutes from my freaking house. And they have clones. Like, hundreds of them. They don't exactly sell them, you buy a class on how to grow them, comes with a free plant. But you can buy as many classes as you want! (up to six)

So I got my babies. Finally. 17453653_10154963227666832_323034324_o.jpg

Started with three varieties:

Super Silver Haze, Cotton Candy, Longbottom Leaf

Planted in 1g pots with a custom mix from the grow store. Compost, coco, perlite and a bit of this and that.

Growing under CFL at first, being it's what I had. But after some research, turns out that this is not going to be enough light. So I upgraded.

450w Viparspectra. I know lots of people say it's MH or nothing, but guys, I'm not so rich I can afford the electric bill from running that sort of thing! LEDs it was. And my plants LOVED it!

Four weeks later and they slowed down growth considerably. They needed. . . something. But what? Bigger pot, apparently. They were growing so well the roots were just PACKED in there! So I got a much, much, much, bigger pot for my three girls. And, because I am also an impulse shopper, also brought home two more clones. Enter Strawberry Blue and Tangerine Haze

Okay so at this point my repotted beauties have taken off and are growing like crazy. It's easier to see their phenotypes by now. My new clones have just started to acclimate to being in dirt and they are also growing nicely. Things are looking. . . .a little cramped. Oops.

This picture makes them look terrible by the way, they really are GREEN and HEALTHY. Longbottom however is tall and lanky. Seems to be her personality. 18073435_10155068651551832_1509591057_n.jpg

The other girls are tall, but with shorter distance between nodes. So for Longbottom I've start to top heavily and that should help make her a bit more chunky. I think.

Here's a shot of Silver Haze and Cotton candy:

I've also started to feed the bigger plants on a 50% the recommended dose of Buddha Grow Organic nutrients. PicMonkey Collage.jpg

hate to say it but I don't think those strains will finnish in maine without at least a green house,
Welp, if that's the case, that's what's going to have to happen. I'm not too worried. I can build a green house out of a couple cattle panels I have laying around, and I have access to electricity outside should I need to heat it. We'll have to see how it goes!
