"lollipoping" What is it?

i'm new at all this, but when i was looking through the foroms for advice on how to harvest my bud in afew weeks, i saw people saying at the stage i'm at now(week 5 of flowering) everyone should "lollipop" thier plants. i searched for the meaning but could find none, any help on the subject would be great.

5 weeks may be late, but make it the shape of a lollipop.

The idea is all those little side branches produce shit but use up plant energy. Prune it back to one main bud and you get 1 dense cola and less little shitty buds.

ok, i see, so because i'm five weeks in my little ones have started and are already using the energy. i will remember this for my next grow. i dont want to clip away all those little ones as this stage because they look like they might be nice to smoke. so if i lollipop next time my main cola or bud will be bigger, but i will have no little ones? is this a better way to maximize yeild?

most ppl say yes it does maximize yeild.... dont know myself just lolipopped this grow, more for clones than yield...but none the less I did it.

5 weeks is a bit late for lollipoppin. But the idea of it is remove the lower two thirds of the branches, pretty much as curious was sayin. Think of it like a tree outside, nice big trunk all the way up with a nice bush on top, pretty much what u do to the plant.

hmm, you like shitty buds? I like the dense ones. I make all my shitty ones on to hash or ganja butter. So I guess I like them too, just not as much.

Yea I would not do anything now. One thing is that part of the idea is that you can fit more plants in the same space with no side branches. So if you only have 1 or 2 plants for a 400w and you trim some of it back than you may get less. If you have too many plants such that some will die due to lack of space under the 400w HPS then you will get more buds by cramming more plants in with less side branches.

Also it is good to just let it grow and learn, next grow you will be able to look at a branch and tell if it will be a bug bud or shwarfell

Back to topic. This is generally used as a strategy to pack your plants in as tight as possible. You can put them right next to each other and not have to worry about the fan leaves blocking light from the bottom 2/3rds of your plant. You usually want to do this about 2 weeks into flowering and can even do it before you start flowering.

Looking at your pic you don't seem to have a canopy that will block all the light to the bottom so you should get some decent nugs off the bottom. You will get a lot of little garbage/hash nugs but use it as a learning experiencce so you recognize what should go next time. If you lollipop correctly you should be able to pack 3-4 more plants into that same space.
