Long stem

I just recently started growing some seeds, and it's my first serious grow. At first I had three plants under a 65w glow light but noticed that the stems were starting to stretch out a lot. I went and bought a new t12 2 40w bulb system 48'' and placed my plants under that. My question is, Is the fact that the stems are about 3'' long going to hurt me later on, the plants are only about a week old and have not been replanted from the original container I started the seeds in.
Thanks for any help

if they carry on streaching the leaves may become to heavy for the stem then you will have to suport it with something but when you repoy the plant pot it so that some of the stem is coverd with soil then is should be ok, have you got any pics?

the more light the better lights will help it stay shorter longer and with a fan or sumthing that will build up the stem strength my buddys has a slighty streached plant due to cloudy days but his is 3 weeks and its doin fine

thx. for the thread. 1st time visit for myself.

i am new to growing as well, and have the same problem. since I didn't anticipate this, what do you recommend to support the little youngin' to precent it from bending over?

look forward to TrainWreck's pictures...

the long stems are there cause they are stretching to reach the light. But, its still very early and they look just fine to me.

I cut those down it was a bad move we were kinda under the influence when we seeded them... But now its just one plant in each of those over crowded cups.

by the looks of it you should start seeing your next set of leaves in about a day or so they will start out as lil green balls or nubs and turn into leaves

Those don't look too bad actually, if you get plenty of 6500 K light on them real close and a small fan to rock the plants in a breeze the stems will stiffen up.
