looking for information on the glowpanel 45 LED

http://www.sunshine-systems.com/GlowPanel-45-LED-Grow-Light-p/gp1-98567.htm

I'm planning my first grow and trying to find a cheap way to get started. We are attempting 9 plants (3x3), and are trying to keep the expenses under $400. I chose this light to hang above the plants, and was planning on getting two sets of 5M smd 5050 LED strips, 5M of blue and 5M of red to spiral around the plants for full light coverage.

I've seen a thread that sorta proves the LED strip works, but i'm aiming for somewhat of a scrog grow, although i will probably limit the veg period to 1month for this first grow. The blue strip will be on along with this light during veg, then ALL lights will be on during the 12hr periods of flower lighting. If you have worked with this light (or an earlier version of it that isn't too outdated), or if you can judge by the specs on the page that it should / shouldn't work, the information will be very much appreciated. With this setup we will be able to keep our total to under $370.

Hey Amish. Offhand I would think a setup like that isn't going to be enough to flower with, especially 9 plants over a 3x3. Even if you kept the plants small, 1 Glowpanel 45 + 5050s will not push out enough light for you area/needs. At least that's the way I see it. Good Luck and Happy Growing!

^^ As above, and i'd also say that jumping in at the deep end with 9 plants, unusual lighting system, etc might not be best for your first grow....

To get a high-powered job you need an education, right??

So this is your education.... Get it out of the way and you will always have the knowledge. Accept that no matter how big your setup, your first grow is probably going to be mediocre.

I do expect my first grow to not be my best lol, but i have also spent 30+ full hours looking at websites and learning the ins and outs of MJ growth. I was in fact suprised to find that 12/12 from seed is possible as i thought vegetation would be required for some time period.

I want to do this right the first time, and if i can get somewhere around 1-2oz per plant for my first grow, i will be extremely happy with it. we have some people buying from us when the time comes (noboby knows we are growing), so as we stick with 9 plants per grow, the lighting and everything will be upgraded. And i do believe learning by doing is always much, much better than by reading about it.

If we lower our operation to 4 plants, we would be able to save $40 from the seeds and about $25 from the pots. If you guys dont think a $400 budget for 9 plants is safely possible, please inform me this and we can start with 4 plants, and with any suggested setup for the lighting, i'm confident that we will be able to achieve some decent yields. We have a lot of vertical space (about 7-8'), so you can assume vegetation for 1 month then flower. On this note, even though this is the led thread, any setup is good enough for starters as long as it's cheap and proven to work well.

I have a couple of similar panels, different brand advertised as 45 watt panels. I use them for supplemental side lighting or as part of 24/0 rotating light schedule to keep costs down (12 hours of intense light and 12 hours of moderate light). They are not strong enough for a full grow out as the primary lighting. I suggest getting some 4 bulb T5s and then supplement that with whatever cheap leds you can find. A decent 4 bulb 2' unit costs from 50 to 100 and has a higher lumen/watt efficiency than LEDS.

this type of panel would yield 8g/ 1/3 oz for one plant, to think you could flower 9 plants for 1 oz each under these panels is crazy bongsmilie

just buy a hps/mh bulb, you will get change out of $400, and more bud

leds, suit certain setups, your plan is not one of of them

well my entire setup will need to be within $400 (lighting, seeds, nutes, pots, so on so forth).

PurpleBuz - will the 2ft 4bulb T5 fixture cover 9 plants? I found a $155 400w hps/mh ballast, but i figure either of these setups will also need supplemental lighting. If i can find cheap hps/mh bulbs and someone here says it would work without supplemental lighting, then that is the route i will take. If the 2ft t5 setup will work with supplement lighting, at 140 for the fixture and bulbs we could possibly afford a couple cfls. We can easily restrict the space around the plants so they should get all the light possible.

If neither of these setups will not do for 9 plants scrog, will a 9plant sog reward more than a 4 plant scrog? if not, then we will need to go with 4 plants either way, and the money saved by only buying 5 seeds and 4 pots will be enough to ensure lighting is optimal for said 4 plants.

No, A 2 foot unit will cover the same area as one of those 45 watt units. One or Two plants depending on how you grow even with additional side lighting.

I suggest you look at your grow area and not the number of plants in determining the amount of lighting. In a 2'4' area 4 plants scrogged can fit well and one or two 4 foot 4 bulb T5 units work well. Add in some cheap side lighting even better. The 4 foot units can be had around 100 each.
