LSTing too much?

I was wondering if you LST a plant and the top part is tied down to the point where the isn't enough stem length left to allow it to return upwards towards the light, would it harm the plant? I've been doing this and have lost a plant and I'm losing another one right now so I removed the last tie down so it could readjust itself to the light.

Any info if you could kill a whole plant if the top part doesn't receive enough light?

i dont know, but I would think that as long as the plant is getting addiquate light , no matter where it gets it, the plant should be fine. I think it's something else.

im going to lst 2 'sage and sour' plants i would be shocked if they died just from that probably something else coincidentely happened at the same time.

If its killing your plants man snip the line asap ,

Make sure the line is always flexible and not tight, Normally its best keeping the ties 5-9 days only then releasing the tie to let the plant grow naturally then re-tie and make your plant grow how you want it too easy pressure .

Oh, it was really tight, actually too tight. I was tieing it down always touching the stem to the soil, was growing it horizontally touching the soil.

Thats how your killing them man , Its all about gently training your plants . You were strangling them bro

Whern I am tieing them down, I make a loop at the end of the string that goes to the plant. I then feed the string through the loop that I am attaching to the stem. This allows for some give and does not create a constriction or stranglehold on the stem. I have never had a problem and I always leave it at least 2" above the soil line.

Question... do you actually have to tie and untie the plant? If I use a screen over top can't I just weave the plant in and out of the screen and not worry about tieing and untieing?

Sorry for the hi-jack :)

Sounds like the most sensible avenue of approach.
FYI. There's a thread around. About root gel and some experiments. There's some info in that thread around page 3 or 4 about how a grower bent and broke his main stem, and used root gel and a medium (coir/moss) bandage to fix it. Interesting results.

Destroy.

You dont have to FloridaG thats just the way i train mines you can tie them the way you want and just leave them like that .

Start them young . Its easier to train younger plants that has flexible stems ,(Not bending the top of the plant right down to the soil like cono was doing then you can kill your plants easily ,
As long as you dont tie to them sort of methods you can tie your plant and make her grow how you like it too ,

Hope that helps a bit .

Noobish question here.. but do all strains accept LSTing? I'm growing white widow is that strain particularly vulnerable to damage/death from LST or are all strains the same regarding LST?

Also, should I make it go round the pot all the way or can I get good bud and good yield if I just make it go halfway and start flowering?

What about topping and this strain?

do a search on RIU or google. For LST TillthedayiDIE420 had a thread here from a year ago about lst options. There is a google link for a dual tub scrog. This is where you invert round rubber tub on top of another tub. Each of the tubs are lined with netting and the HID bulb is hung in the center. This way the plants grow around the hanging bulb itself within its own self contained pod. There are pictures and descriptions floating around.

That was the tutorial I had read about LST :D in fact it's the one that actually made it very easy to understand, but my question wasn't about how to LST, it's that I do not know if every strain of marijuana can be LSTed successfully and if I have to keep it vegging until it has gone round the whole pot like in the picture of the LST tutorial

I liked your thread =D didn't seem to do any damage from topping and LSTing turned out great as well. Thanks for the heads up :peace:

My plant is getting too big for my grow box. It's a pretty mature plant. Is there anything I should watch out for when I LST it? I believe its my only option at the this point.
