Are you gonna put drivers inside tent/grow space or outside?
I have drivers inside one tent with 12 cobs and this one outside and I have trouble keeping a this 2x4 warm with 400+ watts/

Cob kits doe have good prices

If anyone wants some of the heatsinks I use (8"x8"x1 3/16") pm me
The drivers will be outside tent. I have a rack w/ 8 cxb3950 @1400mA on one side and the drivers ( even though its not much) do radiate unnecessary heat. I didnt have any wire so i just put em on the rack. When i get all my shit for the next build i will extend those drivers

In the summer the drivers make it hot in there, but right now just warm enough with drivers inside.
I will also remote my drivers in other tent come spring or after I hang this run.

well the biggest thing is cost. when you can buy a chip that costs half as much as the $50 CXBs of a year ago, and its the same efficiency at 60-70W that we were getting at 50, that reduces your build substantially. bettter thermal management allows for cheaper heatsinks and longer lumen life, etc.

what people were building DIY ffor $3 a watt will now be much ore efficient. that plus better techniques/genetics/nutes/media means 2GPW should be the new standard in a little while

thats another reason i like the cxm22. the 22mm les on a 28mm chip is a super common platform that you can bet will be around for awhile, so a few years from now, you can upgrade to luminus gen 5, citi gen 9, getians latest, etc etc.... it has many holder and reflector options
2 GPW standard soon? I'm still waiting to see people pull 1.5 on a reg. see one here n there but feel it's popcorn counted in, no journal, or just rare & reserved for internet famous people.
Not being dissagreeable, just sharing my thoughts.
As of now, 1-1.2 seems to be the norm considering good grower n plants in a Scrog most times. That's w/ COBs or good white based LEDs.
Now vertical growing, that's another story.

Do you have a picture of this CMX chip?
I read earlier in that it is cube shaped? That would be cool. If so, I wonder if they'll make a special optic for it. That would really spread the light while confining/consolidating it to your grow space.
Interested to see. I just now started reading what all you guys have to say about the new cobs. For those that already built a DIY using CXA's or CXB's, I highly doubt switching chips now is going to improve your ROI electrically w/ a few % & still paying off the initial cob purchase. But for those getting into it now, it's cool to see these options & differences.
I'll read more as i haven't even finished the thread yet.
If it's an actual 5 sided COB cube, that's mega cool in my book. Seen similiar les's in a light about a year ago but they were cylinder shaped & didnt Seam adventagous. W/ a new fancy optic, that could be though.
Staying tuned to learn more.
Great info.

You referring to the Luminus CXM?

Not a cube....same architecture as existing COBs

So none of them are? Could swear it was mentioned one these cobs being cubic in dimensions earlier in this thread. Guy even said he'd maybe use it for Side-Light cuz it emmitts 170• spread.
All cobs we're discussing here are flat?

My tap water is over 7.5 normally and my girls are fine with it now, but I used to battle with ph swings and went to RO then to RO and tap mixed and that was the best I think because I got tired of lugging jugs home
Have you tried bubbling your tap in the Rez for 24hrs, then checking the PH? Doing this bubbles out the Chlorine & other shit, brings the PH down to a stable level. Should be good if you bubble @ least 24 hrs.

I just sit it out overnight now.
Bubbling is so noisy.

My organic soil isnt that picky, but no chlorine would be nice

12 cobs at 700ma so around 450 watts, but my Killa-Watt meter burned out so it isnt actually measured yet. Likely under that with the 22AWG wire I used.

Fans move some air around the heatsinks, but their real job is as canopy fans.
Sweet build & set-up. CXM 22's?
Who makes these. Luminous?

gotta bubble, it will solve your problem. They sell quite pumps. You need it bro.

Yeah Luminus CXM22s from Cobkits

The pump I have gets hot and vibrates like no tomorrow and the noise is crazy

$5-10 replaces it. Hit the grow store. You need it. For real.
It will bring your water down to 6.4-6 & stabilize. Once you add you feed, it will go to 5.8-6.2 most likely depending on your feed.
W/o bubbling it will always fluctuate later. I hate using PH UP or Down.

Same one I have. Acting up after a year. It's a beast though. Now it's Noisy, have to lay it on its side to quite it. They sell others like this weak quite one I have. Comes w/ up to 6 air ports though n will do the job quietly.
image.jpg I've used this same lil model to bubble 30 gall. W/ 2 stones several times. Works just as good.

I have one like that also, and is just makes noise and no air unless I squeeze the middle for some reason, thats why I bought the big boy
